Launched in March 2013, the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center is the first and only facility dedicated to the study and rehabilitation of extremely fearful, under-socialized dogs, such as those confiscated from puppy mills and hoarding situations. In 2017, the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center (BRC) relocated to a new permanent and expanded facility in Weaverville, North Carolina. The mission of the BRC is to share best practices, develop structured behavior modification programs for other animal welfare organizations and assist with these programs' implementation. Our ultimate goal is to maximize lifesaving impact through partnership and collaboration with shelter partners across the country.
The Coordinator, Transport works with internal and external partners to arrange and carry-out transport of dogs in need of off-site medical services, adoptable dogs to placement partners, and incoming dogs arriving for behavioral treatment.
The successful candidate is a true collaborator, working closely with colleagues across the ASPCA, as well partners at veterinary clinics and transfer organizations. The individual in this role will also provide direct support for the adoptions program, assisting in match making and introducing dogs to potential adopters.
Responsibilities :
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Functional Duties (60%)
- Safely and humanely transport dogs, some of which are medically and / or behaviorally compromised, to and from ASPCA facilities, veterinary partners, and partner shelters.
- Coordinate all aspects of animal transport with sending and receiving partners, including lining up alternate drivers as needed
- Train staff from other areas to assist with transports, including training on professional appearance, maintaining clean and safe vehicles, and safeguarding program assets and animals
- Support all aspects of animal transport including, but not limited to : partner relations and quality assurance, animal readiness, proper transport, fleet oversight and maintenance, appropriate animal handling, transport schedule, routes, emergency preparedness, etc.
- Support development of efficient tools to track and verify all aspects of safe and humane transport operations, fleet / vehicle maintenance and driver training and retention
- Participate in daily cross-shelter rounds, anticipating pending transports and collaborating with BRC colleagues to monitor capacity and discuss transports
- Collaborate with the veterinary team daily to ensure timely transfer of dogs in need of veterinary care
- Work closely with direct supervisors of back-up drivers to ensure appropriate level of competent, engaged back-up transport assistance is available
- Oversee and track proper maintenance of program vehicles, ensuring all fleet maintenance, cleaning and inspections are current and properly logged
- Maintains inventory of supplies to ensure the viability of daily transports
- Serve as main contact person for management of transport, inventory, vehicle maintenance, and asset logistics
- Participate in ASPCA Fleet and driver development opportunities
- Attend and participate in organization-wide workgroups and committees related to animal transport and vehicle requisition / disposition and maintenance
- Participates in required trainings and actively pursues professional development
- Perform other duties as assigned by Senior Director, Operations.

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.
The target hiring range for this role is $23.00 - $24.20 / hour.
