What are the responsibilities and job description for the Book Production Manager position at American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)?
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the world's largest publisher of civil engineering information, seeks a motivated, detail-oriented, and dynamic publishing professional to manage and oversee production and printing for all books and standards, as well as production for e-books and ePubs.
Responsibilities include :
- Engaging in extensive contact with volunteer authors and editors, as well as standards committee members
- Creating production schedules and tracking deadlines in Asana
- Coordinating the development of cover designs with author / editor
- Coordinating creation of chapter abstracts with vendor
- Managing freelancers for copyediting, proofreading, and cover design
- Reviewing copyediting from vendors and freelancers to ensure compliance with the appropriate style guides
- Checking and approving production steps with vendors and freelancers regarding copyediting, cover design, composition, proofreading, indexing, printing, and electronic products
- Managing and guiding offshore vendors for copyediting, composition, indexing, printing, binding, and distribution in print and online
- Working with vendors to review and approve all titles ready to be published
- Working with vendors to prepare full-text XML and desired image formats
- Managing printer-related processes (initial purchase order, print materials to the printer, review, and approval of proofs
- Maintaining spreadsheets of information for books and standards
- Performing book data management and calculating unit costs for titles
- Managing uploads of production files into Microsoft TEAMS folders
- Managing invoice processing for book project payments
- Updating style manuals and procedures documents
- Overseeing special projects
