The New York Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects is seeking a full-time Executive Director, who will play a crucial role in advocating for our mission and fostering support for our initiatives. This position involves building relationships with our Chapter members, sponsors, managing projects and planning efforts to enhance our organization's impact. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a passion for making a difference.
The Executive Director will collaborate with the Chapter President and members of the Board to implement goals and strategies. This will include:
- providing leadership and guidance for the direction of the Chapter
- developing important relationships not limited to members, allied design professionals and other organizations
- cultivating sponsorship prospects
- administering events and programs organized by the Chapter
- expanding the profile of our profession
Organization Structure:
The Executive Director reports to the President of the ASLA-NY Board, with additional direction and requests for assistance from the other ASLA-NY Board members.
Responsibilities:
- Represent the organization at all times. Serve as the primary point of contact for the Chapter. Be the spokesperson and advocate at public events, meetings, and conferences to raise awareness of our programs.
- Stay up to date on issues and topics on Landscape Architecture. Connect with landscape architects and allied professionals such as engineers, architects, horticulturalists, academics etc.
- Develop and maintain relationships with sponsors, partners, volunteers to promote the organization's mission.
- Work with the board to develop a sponsorship base to fund the Chapter activities and endeavors. Negotiate partnerships and sponsorships that align with organizational goals.
- Support development activities and opportunities for funding and collaboration.
- Oversee the Chapter's communications and outreach including writing and editing, graphic display, social media, website, e-blast, and press releases.
- Manage administrative tasks including budgeting, phone and e-mail correspondence, record-keeping, and file organization. Coordinating and receiving approval for Continuing Education seminars and maintaining records of attendees. Supervising the planning and execution of Chapter events.
Skills Required:
- A passion for non-profit work and a commitment to making a positive impact on the community.
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in project or operations management within a non-profit or similar environment. More extensive experience highly desired.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience in guiding teams towards achieving common goals.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Team player with excellent people skills, able to provide guidance and assistance in a tactful and diplomatic manner
- Multi-tasker with outstanding organization skills and attention to detail
- Good judgment on policy, public relations and advocacy issues
- Office programs: Microsoft Work, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator) QuickBooks
Preferred Skills:
- Background in Landscape Architecture
- Familiar with ASLA-NY Chapter operations
- Not-for-profit management experience, particularly in professional association management
- Experience and passion in business development, identifying new opportunities for fundraising, grants, expanding donor pool and donor cultivations.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience. $75,000 - $90,000
