The Division of Transplant Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine is accepting applications for Chief of Transplant Surgery at Seattle Children’s Hospital. This unique opportunity consists of a full-time UW faculty Pediatric Transplant Surgeon position at the rank of Associate Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT) or Professor WOT. Associate and full professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The expected start date is the start of calendar year 2025.

This leadership position will be based at Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH) and the successful candidate will participate in surgical transplantation procedures, clinics, candidate selection, and donor organ evaluation and recovery in children. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) and to grow the SCH LDLT program. This position will have opportunities in split liver procurement and transplantation, and kidney transplantation in children. Additional SCH leadership roles could be available depending on candidate’s experience. This position may participate in the UW Medical Center – Montlake (UWMC) adult transplant program by participating in surgical transplantation procedures as needed.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

At the rank of Associate Professor (WOT) : The base salary range for this position will be : $38,500 - $43,000 per month ($462,000 - $516,000 annually). At the rank of Professor (WOT) : The base salary range for this position will be : $46,667 - $50,834 per month ($560,004 - $610,008 annually). Base salaries at all ranks will be commensurate with candidate experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University.

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive or additional compensation through CUMG with a preliminary range of $6,250 - $10,417 per month ($75,000 - $125,004 annualized) and a leadership role administrative supplement(s) for qualified candidates in the range of $4,167 - $10,417 per month ($50,004 - $125,004 annualized). Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by CUMG practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications

Requirements for this position include :

  • MD degree (or foreign equivalent)
  • Board eligibility (or foreign equivalent) by the American Board of Surgery
  • Successful completion of a transplant surgery fellowship
  • Eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
