The American Sociological Association (ASA) invites applications for the position of Deputy Executive Director. During this critical period for the discipline of sociology, and for higher education more broadly, the ASA Deputy Executive Director will work with the Executive Director to ensure the association’s strategic effectiveness, operational and financial stability, and programmatic growth in support of sociologists working in academia and across the scientific workforce. The Deputy Executive Director serves as staff leader in the Executive Director’s absence and is an essential member of the association leadership team.
ASA has a membership of 9, sociologists who are scholars, teachers, and practitioners. Its mission is to serve sociologists in their work, advance sociology as a discipline and profession, and promote the contributions and use of sociology to society. ASA is incorporated in Washington, D.C., but staff works % remotely. Some travel is required.
Essential Functions :
- Assist the Executive Director in developing and executing the organization's strategic plan.
- Oversee the implementation of key strategic initiatives and monitor progress toward goals.
- Identify opportunities for growth and expansion within the organization.
- Proactively identify internal opportunities and challenges and work with the Executive Director to address them.
- Lead association fundraising efforts, including identifying, cultivating, and securing new donations in support of the association’s strategic initiatives.
