The American Sociological Association (ASA) invites applications for the position of Executive Assistant to the Executive Director. During this critical period for the discipline of sociology, and for higher education more broadly, the Executive Assistant will provide high-level administrative support to the Executive Director in leading the association’s efforts to advance the discipline and support sociologists working in academia and across the scientific workforce. The Executive Assistant serves as an essential member of the staff team.

ASA has a membership of 9, sociologists who are scholars, teachers, and practitioners. Its mission is to serve sociologists in their work, advance sociology as a discipline and profession, and promote the contributions and use of sociology to society. ASA is incorporated in Washington, D.C., but staff works % remotely. Some travel is required.

Essential Functions :

  • Calendar management : Scheduling meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements for the Executive Director, including managing conflicts and prioritizing important events.
  • Communication management : Composing and editing correspondence on behalf of the Executive Director.
  • Document preparation : Drafting reports, presentations, memos, and other documents as needed, ensuring accuracy and professional presentation.
  • Meeting coordination : Setting up meeting agendas, preparing materials, taking minutes, and following up on action items.
  • Expense reporting : Tracking and submitting expense reports for the Executive Director.
  • Project management : Assisting with special projects as assigned, including research, data compilation, and follow-up.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.

Reporting Structure : The Executive Assistant reports to the Executive Director.

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least two years of experience in an organizational setting.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple demands
  • Strong work ethic
  • Maturity, excellent judgment, and organizational savvy
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with teams
  • Compensation : Commensurate with experience, a qualified candidate may earn between $50, and $65, annually, with an opportunity for annual merit-based bonuses. A full and generous benefits package is provided.
