Position Summary

The Material Handler’s primary duties include but are not limited to, receiving raw material, staging material for processing and secondary operations, keeping the inventory areas clean and orderly, and loading and unloading trucks. As required, the Material Handler will also deburr parts and prepare products for shipment to the customer. It will be the Material Handler’s responsibility to ensure the quality of the products produced consistently meet the highest level of quality and the customer’s requirements.

The Material Handler may also be asked to perform preventative maintenance on designated pieces of equipment and, as part of the production team, will be responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the facility.

The candidate must be friendly, courteous, professional, an effective communicator, and team player.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Foster a culture of safety awareness and safety prioritization.
  • Ensure that quality standards are met, and champion quality ownership of the work center.
  • Enforce all company rules and policies; communicate issues or concerns with leadership.
  • Follow all company rules, policies, and procedures; communicate issues or concerns with division management and/or Corporate.
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Move and stage material for processing and secondary operations.
  • Perform grinding, shot blasting, and other secondary operations to finish parts.
  • Inspect material before processing for damage and/or quality defects.
  • Perform visual and measured quality inspections during production to ensure products meet the required specifications.
  • Utilize and read the appropriate measuring instruments.
  • Pack parts as specified on the Work Order or as communicated by the Production Supervisor or Operations Manager.
  • Review paperwork for accuracy and confirm that any special requests called out on the Work Order are understood.
  • Regularly clean and conduct specified routine maintenance on designated machines to ensure they are in optimum working condition.
  • Keep the immediate work area and other areas of the shop clean and orderly.

EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Experience with metal cutting and part production.
  • Experience in an industrial / manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Forklift/Overhead Crane Certified preferred.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ambitious self-starter, technically sound, and results-driven.
  • Ability to receive, track, and distribute materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of light equipment operation and/or maintenance (mechanical aptitude).
  • Ability to apply mathematical skills and techniques to solve production problems.
  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.

  • Knowledge of light equipment operation and/or maintenance (mechanical aptitude).

EDUCATION

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent (such as a GED).
  • Technical/Vocational Training is highly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee safety is a top priority at ASA and assigned workload may involve handling heavy machinery, tools, and materials and as such we like to be clear and transparent about the physical requirements to perform this role safely.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Ability to maintain coordinated manual dexterity with mental and visual attentiveness for sustained periods of time.
