Position Summary
Workplace safety and environmental concerns are of paramount importance to ASA. At ASA, we want every employee to feel assured they are working in a safe, secure, and productive work environment. Reporting to the Vice President & General Manager, the EHS Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development, execution, and performance of their division’s overall safety program. The EHS Specialist will not only help execute the EHS mission on a day-to-day basis but also continually work in concert with operational teams to build a cooperative approach to consistently improving our workplace safety culture.
What You’ll Do
Reports directly to the Corporate Director, Environmental, Health, & Safety.Ensure the division’s compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental, workplace safety & health, and transportation laws and regulations (DOT), including the documentation of such compliance through, for example, site visits and operational audit programs.Advise management on EH&S performance, potential risks, and recommend corrective actions.Implement programs to mitigate workplace injuries, accidents, and environmental impacts.Manage emergency response plans, ensuring effective preparedness for environmental or safety incidents.Conduct all incident investigations to not only ensure the accuracy of each incident report but that a thorough incident root cause analysis is utilized to prevent future, similar incidents.Work alongside operational teams to drive management accountability for improving the division’s overall EHS performance by assisting in the development and reporting of KPIs and communicating critical events to senior management.Drive workplace health & safety training standards and matrices (by position); conducts and / or coordinates training & awareness programs, including the onboarding of new employees and the execution of weekly huddle meetings / toolbox talks, monthly / annual compliance training, and other training needs (as required). The EHS Specialist will also ensure that all training is documented and retained per the company’s standards.Support operations leadership and the maintenance team with the tracking of equipment inspections (and the associated expirations) as well as participate in regular reviews of maintenance logs with the aforementioned groups.Assist in the development, review, and maintenance of safety program administrative documentation and infrastructure, including but not limited to, the safety manual, training programs & matrices, job safety analysis, site inspections, accident investigations, OSHA recordkeeping, etc.Maintains the division’s life-safety systems (e.g., fire extinguishers, fire systems, AEDs, first-aid kits, etc) while ensuring systems remain functional and compliant with company policies and local / state / federal law.Manage regulatory reporting, inspections, audits, and documentation for EH&S practices.Maintain current knowledge of emerging regulations and best practices, advising leadership on compliance and risk management strategies.Execute miscellaneous duties, as assigned by management.Required Skill and Experience
College degree in occupational health & safety or other relevant experience / education preferred.Demonstrated experience working as a safety professional – with proven success, tactically and strategically.Knowledge of EH&S regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and local environmental laws.Completion of OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour class within the last 2-3 years highly preferred.Effective oral & written communication and customer service skills.Proficiency in utilizing software & technology tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, etc.) to fulfill job requirements.Capable of prioritizing and organizing multiple tasks and projects to ensure efficient productivity and high-quality completion of assignments.Ability to build rapport and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels.Work independently as well as collaboratively in a team - engaging key stakeholders, where necessary.Pro-active and enthusiastic problem solver – identifying business risks, develop appropriate solutions, and implement programs successfully.Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field of study and / or an equivalent combination of experience and professional accreditations preferred.A minimum of a high school diploma.Previous experience in a EHS role with a government supplier and ISO 9001-2015 certified organization highly desired.Physical Requirements
