American Metals Corporation is seeking a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Technician to join our team. General Job Summary:
- Perform duties in a safe and accurate manner related to maintaining and repair of equipment and facilities.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
- Equipment repair as required following standard safe practices such as lockout-tag-out, confined spaces, fall restraint, etc. This includes all processing and material handling equipment as well as the rolling stock (trailers, and fork-lifts).
- Facility maintenance as required, to include building and infrastructure (lighting, plumbing, etc) repair and maintenance.
- Routine preventative maintenance, to include established PM schedules as well as conducting routine maintenance.
- Safe operation of trade tools such as stick and wire welding equipment, hand and pneumatic tools, etc.
- Managing the spare parts inventory to assure maximum repair coverage for critical equipment and minimum inventory levels.
- Managing the maintenance materials supply inventory (e.g. nuts and bolts, hoses, fittings, etc).
- Manage and direct the installation of new equipment and retrofits of existing equipment as necessary.
- Follow all documented company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety and operations.
- Conduct behavior within the guidelines of the Company Vision, Beliefs and Principles Statement.

- Familiar with and follow current procedures and work instructions relevant to the position.
Job Scope:
Position has recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm with a moderate degree of complexity. Determines own practices and documented procedures. Contributes to the development of new concepts when a new machine installation and implementation of new maintenance programs occurs. Operates independently with minimal supervision. Typical purchasing and repair decisions are made within company policy constraints. OSHA compliance and other regulating agencies require that some decisions be made within broad interpretation of applicable laws. Errors will cause stoppage of production and overall operation of the plant.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Position is not supervisory in nature.
Interpersonal Contacts:
Routine phone and face-to-face contact is made with internal staff, vendors and customers.
Specific Job Skills:
- Requires ability to use and maintenance all tools and equipment where they are designed to function.
- Working knowledge of OSHA guidelines relative to meeting maintenance standards on all machines and material handling equipment.
- Working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical operation systems relative to maintaining plant equipment.
- Basic knowledge of computer controlled systems.
- Problem solving skills and organizational skills including planning, prioritization, time management and attention to detail are necessary.
- In addition, the following knowledge, skills and abilities are utilized in execution of the position: math skills, blueprint reading, knowledge of plant processing equipment capabilities.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 5 years of warehousing experience required, preferably in a steel center. 2 years of direct maintenance experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license or Commercial Driver's License required as specified by the branch.
- On the job training will result in in-depth knowledge of all machines and material handling equipment. Forklift Certification will also be provided.
Physical Requirements/Safety Sensitive Functions:
Frequent changes in work position including, but not limited to standing, walking, bending, crawling and climbing ladders. Work considered "heavy": exerting up to 110 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 20/40 visual acuity needed. Position is required to maintenance all machinery and equipment, which requires movement in confined spaces and servicing of overhead cranes.

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
