What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Sterile Processing Technician position at American Surgical Centers?
- Responsible for control of all parts of the sterilization process.
- Decontamination.
- Prepare, pack, sterilize.
- Review case cart before each procedure.
- Place correct sets in right location(s).
- Confirm all loaners are wrapped in white and locations are wrapped in blue.
- Cleans/decontaminates used instruments after surgery (this process may require assembly and maintenance of some instruments for proper cleaning and sterilization), as well as prepare for sterilization of all trays, instrumentation, and equipment.
- Reprocess instrumentation between cases in a timely manner.
- Maintain surgical instrument sets and equipment and ensure proper sterile conditions.
- Build case carts daily for the next day cases.
- All rapid/turnover and needs list should always be communicated with CPD personnel.
- Place list in all CPD area, OR board, and decontamination board.
- Documentation of sterilization and storage including remediation of equipment failures and hazards.
- Orders supply, stocks, and maintains storage areas in the Operating Room for service.
- Daily check of shelves of wrapped instrumentation, peel packs, and verifying that nonsterile/sterile items are not placed together.
- Work in conjunction with the OR staff to provide timely sterile product.
- Set up instrumentation and supplies before operations while maintaining sterile environment.
- Assist RN in maintaining a safe environment for the patient.
- Maintain consistency and continuous workflow between the OR while practicing excellent customer service.
- Operate and maintain Steris Machine (Sterilizers, Washers), as well as keep record of loads completed and items of loads.
- Aware of surgery schedule daily for any changes and cancellations, identifying general specific and potential needs for all cases.
