Overview
The primary role of the Surgical Instrument Repair Specialist is to perform repairs on medical instrumentation and equipment. Specialist must be familiar with various types of surgical instruments and equipment and understand how to best maintain, clean, and repair them. Repairs are completed either in a mobile laboratory, on-site in the hospital. All repairs are to be completed to the highest quality standards and in a timely manner.

In addition to repair work, Specialist may work with a team including Sales Representatives and Regional Managers to identify and capitalize on revenue opportunities. Daily travel to various customer sites are required as well as occasional overnight travel. Travel requirements may vary by repair location.

Duties

  • Identifies surgical instruments by various type, use and functionality. Inspect instruments to determine what type of repair and/or adjustment is required.
  • Disassembles malfunctioning medical instruments or equipment, troubleshoots and uses standardized testing procedures; examines and tests mechanisms for defects.
  • Replaces or repairs defective parts; may require manufacturing replacement components. Reassembles medical instruments or equipment and tests assembly for conformance to specifications.
  • Follow company standards for estimating repair costs.
  • Responsible for managing expenses and submitting expense reports on time.
  • Basic daily use of Microsoft Office, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Email and company billing software.
  • Abide by all Company safety and health policies and procedures. Must use personal protective equipment as required.
  • Determine correct spare parts required to complete repairs. If the parts required are controlled by inventory numbers, the technician is responsible for performing all necessary inventory transactions to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Perform autoclave cleaning services (if applicable) in accordance with company standard operating procedures as required. Work will be performed in hospital and surgery center settings. Professionalism and customer service excellence is a must.
  • Abide by customer policies and credentialing services before gaining access to facilities. This includes providing proof of necessary vaccinations unless special accommodations are approved.
  • Maintain company vehicle maintenance schedules that comply with manufacturer recommendations.
  • Exercise mechanical skills for precision, alignment, sharpening and repair of surgical instruments.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork (i.e., logging instruments, equipment and completed repairs).
  • Improve results for assigned area including increase in revenue, personnel development, and asset readiness.
  • Effectively communicate by providing excellent verbal and written skills to ensure quality dialogue with customers and colleagues.
  • Consult with customers regarding surgical instrument care and handling best practices.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an Instrument Repair Specialist or in a similar role for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and repair techniques.
  • Strong problem resolution and mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in using repair tools including buffer, grinder, belt sander, soldering torch.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Relevant certifications or training in instrumentation technology is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Applicant must have a good driving record. No applicants with risky driving behaviors will be accepted.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
