American Trucking Associations (ATA) is looking for an experienced Art Director to lead design projects that support the trucking industry's advocacy efforts. Reporting to the Vice President of Creative Services, you will supervise a design team, manage projects across various mediums, and ensure alignment with ATA’s brand and goals. The role requires strong editorial skills, proficiency in Adobe software, and experience managing workflows. Familiarity with designing for policymakers or government audiences is a plus. This position offers the chance to lead creative work at the intersection of design, policy, and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
Team Management & Workflow Oversight
- Lead and manage the design team, delegating tasks based on team members' strengths and the requirements of each project.
- Review draft work from team members, providing constructive feedback to refine designs, ensuring alignment with project goals and ATA’s brand identity.
- Foster a collaborative and positive working environment that promotes professional growth through mentorship and development opportunities for team members.
Collaboration Across Departments
Collaborate with various departments, including marketing, communications, events, and advocacy teams, to ensure design projects stay on track and meet deadlines.Develop and manage project timelines, ensuring deliverables are submitted on time while maintaining high quality.Communicate proactively with stakeholders, providing status updates and resolving any potential issues related to design deliverables.Contribute creative solutions to overcome production challenges such as tight deadlines, resource constraints, or technical difficulties.Brand Development & Asset Management
Partner with senior leadership to help refine and maintain ATA’s brand standards, ensuring consistency across all visual materials.Assist in the creation and management of comprehensive asset libraries for easy access to design elements, such as logos, templates, and style guides.Ensure that all design work is consistent with ATA’s visual identity and aligns with messaging for both print and digital mediums.Editorial & Design Expertise
Apply a keen editorial eye to maintain high standards of visual coherence, attention to detail, and quality across all design materials.Oversee and guide the development of various design assets, including reports, presentations, infographics, social media visuals, and event materials.Software Proficiency
Utilize advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) to produce high-quality design deliverables.Stay current with design trends and industry standards, applying the latest techniques and technologies in visual communication.Experience with Policy / Governmental Design
Previous experience designing materials for policymakers, governmental agencies, or Capitol Hill audiences is highly desirable.Ability to navigate the unique design needs of materials created for advocacy, policy communication, and industry standards, with a deep understanding of tone, messaging, and visual professionalism.Background Requirements :
Education / Experience :
5 years of experience in a design leadership role, ideally in a nonprofit, government, or advocacy setting.Proven experience managing a team of designers while handling personal design projects and maintaining a balanced workload.Skills Required :
Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), with a portfolio showcasing creative direction and design capabilities.Exceptional editorial eye with meticulous attention to detail and a strong understanding of design principles such as typography, layout, and color theory.Skills Preferred :
Experience with motion graphics or animation software (e.g., After Effects, Premiere Pro).Familiarity with web design and digital platforms for online content delivery, including social media design trends.Experience working on large-scale advocacy campaigns or in industry associations is a plus.Why ATA?
