Summary:
Kogod Career Development supports the career development of all undergraduate student populations at Kogod. To best serve our students, we hire Peer Consultants (PCs) to support our coaches with resumes, cover letter reviews, workshops, and help educate classmates on the resources available to them through our office.
Responsibilities
- Student Appointments
- Meet with students during scheduled appointments and drop-in hours to provide feedback on resumes, cover letters, and other career-related documents.
- Help students reflect on their experiences and effectively represent these experiences in their professional documents.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as online resume reviews as needed.
- Attend weekly team meetings.
- Outreach Activities
- Market our events, services, and resources by distributing promotional flyers, staffing outreach tables, and visiting classrooms and student clubs.
- Collaborate with Kogod student leaders to identify opportunities for partnership on programs and workshops consistent with services offered through Career Engagement
- Create signs, posters, banners, and/or flyers used to advertise various peer advisor activities and events.
- Brainstorm new strategies to encourage students to engage in the career development process.
- Serve as a liaison between students and the Kogod Career Development.
- Programming/Resource Development
- Provide support for Career Development initiatives including credit-bearing classes, Industry Days, and employer information sessions.
- Brainstorm and pitch programming ideas (career events, alumni speakers, etc.) reflecting student needs and wants.
- Design, plan, lead, and assess peer-to-peer networking programs Research industry-specific resources, professional groups, and conferences to share with students via Handshake.
- Confidentiality
- Commit to preserving confidential information on students, employers, faculty, and staff while working in the Kogod Career Development.
- Part-Time.
- 8-10 hours per week (with occasional evenings and weekends if needed).
- $17.50 (Undergraduate)- $18.50 (Graduate) per hour.
- Must be a Junior, Senior, or current Graduate Student.
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to create and deliver presentations with confidence to groups of 10 students.
- Must work both independently and collaboratively with other PCs.
- The Career Development Applicants should possess a strong interest in developing knowledge of career-related.
- This position is available only to enrolled American University students.
