Description Overall Summary Seeking a highly skilled Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to oversee and ensure the quality and safety of welding operations in our manufacturing / fabrication projects. The CWI will inspect welds to confirm adherence to specifications, codes, and safety standards. Additionally, this role will be responsible for developing and teaching a weld school to ensure proper training and skills development among welding personnel. Essential Job Functions Perform visual inspections of welds to ensure compliance with applicable standards, codes, and project specifications (e.g., AWS). Conduct dimensional checks on welded parts to ensure proper alignment and fit-up. Review welding procedures, welder qualifications, and test results to verify conformance to requirements. Oversee welding activities in the shop and on-site to ensure proper techniques and procedures are followed. Document inspection results, including measurements, test results, and deviations from specifications. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of welders' performance and qualifications. Collaborate with welding supervisors, engineers, and other personnel to address welding issues and recommend corrective actions. Ensure all welding-related documentation, including WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) and PQR (Procedure Qualification Record), is available and correctly implemented. Develop, implement, and teach a welding training program (weld school) for new and existing welding personnel by : Create instructional materials and hands-on training for welders. Teach welding techniques, safety practices, and industry standards in classroom and shop settings. Evaluate welders' skills and provide continuous improvement plans. Provide training and mentorship to welding personnel on welding standards, techniques, and safety practices. Participate in non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and radiographic testing as needed. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and participate in safety audits and reviews. Working Conditions The CWI will spend time on the manufacturing floor and in the offices. This will result in potential exposure to heat / cold, dust, noise, and welding fumes when working in a plant.Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification from the American Welding Society (AWS) or equivalent. In-depth knowledge of welding standards, codes, and specifications (e.g., AWS). Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and procedures. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols. Experience in developing and conducting training programs or schools for welding personnel. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with teams and document findings. Proficiency in using inspection tools and equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and weld gauges. Prior experience in the construction, manufacturing, or fabrication industries is preferred. Strong knowledge of safety regulations and practices in the welding industry. Education & Experience Bachelor's or technical degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering / technology preferred. Five years of progressive experience in Welding. Demonstrated initiative and leadership working in continuous improvement projects or activities. Must be able to read reports, memos, and other miscellaneous written correspondence and view computer screen. Must be able to communicate verbally with callers, visitors, and co-workers.
