AWG offers comprehensive services to our customers around the world, including cable management, cable engineering and design, supply chain management, emergency services, and more.
AWG is seeking an experienced and motivated Director of Engineering to report to our Chief Revenue Officer, Norman Russell. The Director of Engineering – Power Equipment is a newly created role responsible for assessing, structuring, and scaling AWG’s technical capabilities in power equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and power accessories. This role will establish the foundation for future engineering expansion, ensuring AWG has the necessary technical support to drive business growth and execution.
This role requires a deep technical background in power equipment, combined with the ability to collaborate across sales, project management, and operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in engineering leadership, vendor qualification, and project execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Assessment & Engineering Strategy
- Conduct a gap analysis of AWG’s current technical capabilities in power equipment (transformers, switchgear, substation solutions, etc.).
- Evaluate current supplier specifications and identify necessary technical improvements for product alignment with industry standards.
- Define key engineering support roles needed to scale the power equipment business.
- Provide input on product qualification, testing standards, and compliance (IEEE, ANSI, NERC, UL).
2. Engineering Team Development & Growth Strategy
- Build a roadmap to hire, structure, and scale an engineering team to support power equipment sales and project execution.
- Identify the need for Field Engineers, Applications Engineers, and Project Engineers to support AWG’s expanding business.
- Define team responsibilities and reporting structure within the broader organization.
- Serve as the technical bridge between engineering, sales, and project execution.
3. Sales & Customer Technical Support
- Act as the lead technical expert supporting Henrique (Director of Sales – Hardware) and Ben (Director of Sales – Transformers).
- Assist in customer meetings, RFPs, and technical presentations to support business development.
- Work with project management (Luke) to ensure proper technical execution of contracts and FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing).
- Provide post-sale technical support to ensure customer satisfaction and issue resolution.
4. Future Leadership & VP-Level Development
- Lay the groundwork for a future VP of Engineering role, overseeing both Power Equipment & Cable Engineering.
- Ensure long-term alignment between technical strategy and business growth.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
- 10 years of experience in power equipment engineering, including transformers and switchgear.
- Experience with vendor qualification, testing, and compliance (IEEE, NERC, ANSI, UL).
- Leadership experience in building and managing engineering teams.
- Strong background in technical sales support, customer interaction, and field troubleshooting

Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $170K (Market Competitive)
Bonus Structure: Eligible for company bonus structure up aprx 15 percent of base salary - Healthcare Coverage: Full benefits for employee (excluding spouse/dependents).

Travel Requirement: 30-40% (FAT testing, supplier audits, customer site visits).
