Operations Manager – Schofield, WI
American Wood Fibers (AWF), a rapidly growing manufacturer of consumer and industrial products sold to other manufacturers and to pet, agricultural and home heating markets, seeks an Operations/Plant Manager based at its Schofield, WI facility. AWF manufactures at 10 locations spanning the nation, has 400 employees, and generates over $100M in annual sales revenue.
Description: The Operations Manager is responsible for general supervision of all phases of plant operations including production, quality control, raw material acquisition, receiving, shipping and safety.
I. Key Responsibilities include:
· Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the facility.
· Utilize the published shipping schedule to establish appropriate finished goods inventory levels and production schedules to meet the customer’s needs while maintaining the highest manufacturing efficiencies possible.
· Coordinate the hiring and training of all production personnel
· Monitor operation expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining product quality
· Work closely with all personnel to ensure all members of the manufacturing team are aware of safety policies to provide a safe workplace for our employees
· Work closely with the production team to increase productivity and profitability
· Facility/physical plant up-keep and capital improvements
· Coordinate with the Raw Material Sourcing Manager to ensure raw material inventories and incoming material are sufficient to meet the production demand of the plant
· Work with the Maintenance Manager & Maintenance Supervisor to insure shift coverage and coordinate maintenance activities
· Responsible for safety, cleanliness and good housekeeping of entire plant with emphasis on meeting OSHA standards. Conducts or assists in regular safety meetings on a monthly basis or as needed.
II. Operations:
· Responsible for general planning, directing and monitoring of all plant activities including; production, maintenance, transportation and special projects, to achieve the safest and most efficient operations possible within established budget guidelines.
· Strives to achieve balance between production and sales within the plant capabilities and raw material flow.
· Accountable for manufacturing costs, inventory levels, repairs, operating methods and effective use of people-hours, skills, machines, equipment and facilities.
· Coordinates programs as they relate to operations, such as, manufacturing methods and engineering, cost reduction, preventive and regular maintenance, training, and safety.
· Tracking and management of packaging & production supplies; i.e. bags, pallets, stretch wrap, slip sheets, labels, etc.
III. Quality
· Work with Quality Specialist to maintain product quality requirements and analyze in-process and final inspection test data to determine trends and areas of improvement
· Maintains and verifies that all current quality assurance measures are being followed and communicated to production employees, office personnel and customers.
· Assists in the design and implementation of new procedures as needed.
IV. Performance Evaluations
· Completes and presents performance evaluations for shift supervisors.
· May recommend promotions or transfers of personnel.
· Verifies accuracy of time cards for payroll.
· Monitors attendance of subordinates as well as compliance to policies, rules and regulations.
· Recommends and implements disciplinary action as required.
Qualifications:
· 5 years management experience
· Bachelors degree or equivalent experience, preferred
· Demonstrated understanding of the principles and applications associated with manufacturing operations and maintenance
· Previous experience/strong understanding of budgeting/expense management with a basic understanding of financial and accounting practices
· Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production, quality and inventory
· Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends
· Previous experience/broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies
· Demonstrated ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills
· Highly motivated, results oriented, driven
