PLC/Controls Technician
American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 450 employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for our PLC/Controls Technician role in our Columbia, MD office.
JOB SUMMARY
The PLC/Controls Technician will play a key role in designing, developing, implementing and maintaining programmable logic control systems for our manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate should be able to foster a good working relationship with managers and colleagues and be focused on delivering innovative solutions to optimize production efficiency, quality and safety in our manufacturing facilities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES - Primary duties to include, but not limited to the following:
General
PLC Controls Technician Responsibilities
· Have a strong background in control systems, PLC programming and automation technologies, and will be responsible for designing new systems and upgrading existing systems.
· Design, develop and implement PLC-based control systems for wood manufacturing processes.
· Program and configure PLCs, including Allen Bradley, using industry-standard programming languages and platforms.
· Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to PLC programming, hardware, and communication networks.
· Provide technical support and training to operators and maintenance staff on PLC operation and troubleshooting procedures.
· Adhere to safety standards and regulations throughout the design, development and implementation of PLC control systems.
· Panel design using AutoCAD
· Ability to generate Bills of Materials for automation systems and panels
· Establishes and implements project plans, ensures staff has the necessary skills and expertise required for the tasks on larger projects.
· Creates SOP and training documents for all automation equipment.
· Ability to troubleshoot, repair and replace faulty electrical components such as relays, switches, VFD and other sensing devices.
· Debug PLCs, networking, power system, I/O devices etc.
· Data Analytic skills to troubleshoot and improve performance and system reliability.
· Installation and startup of new or changes to equipment or processes. Coordinates major maintenance and repair of automation equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s Degree (preferred but not required)
· Strong Mechanical and Electrical background
· 2 years of experience with automation equipment
· 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment (preferred)
