AmericanAg®, a global provider of diversified reinsurance services, is looking for a Catastrophe Modeling Intern to work on our Reinsurance Modeling team this summer in our office in Schaumburg, Illinois.
We are looking for students between their junior and senior year of college who are interested in developing an understanding of catastrophe modeling and reinsurance principles and are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a related field (Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Meteorology, etc.).
Reporting to the Reinsurance Modeling Manager, the Catastrophe Modeling Intern will actively participate in projects related to catastrophe modeling and data analysis.

The Catastrophe Modeling Intern Will Be Responsible For
- Testing the next generation of catastrophe model software and integration with internal applications and providing detailed feedback on the results of testing
- Analyzing insurance portfolios using Excel, SQL, Power BI, and GIS software for data quality and risk assessment
- Exploring opportunities to automate data quality checks in all submissions
- Participating in the development of Actuarial presentations
- Contributing to team workflows for regular business analyses
- Experience with Microsoft products (Excel, Power BI, SQL) and familiarity in working with data
- Careful attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to learn new software with informal on-the-job training
- Ability to analyze existing tools and processes, modify or create new tools, and improve processes
- Hands-on experience in the reinsurance industry

- Competitive pay of $27.00 per hour, based on a 37.5-hour work week
- Flexible work schedule with the option to work 8.33 hours per day for nine days and have the tenth day off (every other Friday)
- Option to work from home every other Friday (that is not a Friday off)
