What are the responsibilities and job description for the Whitewater Raft Guide position at Americas Rafting Company?
Seeking full time summer guides for overnight whitewater rafting trips in Hells Canyon/Snake River and Lower Salmon River in Idaho. Weekly 3-6 day trips with Class I-IV rapids on oared boats with 2-6 guests per boat, up to 18 per trip. Entertain, educate and guide guests safely down the river, set up camp, cook dinner and entertain guests, sleep riverside, cook breakfast, pack up camp, and jump back on the river.
Must have an attitude that is positive, friendly, and hardworking with the ability for physical work. Whitewater or boating experience preferred. Fishing or cooking experience helpful. Successful applicants must complete spring whitewater training and be First Aid and CPR certified in order to be a licensed ID guide. America’s Rafting Co is based out of Cambridge, ID
Responsibilities of the job:
- Safely rowing guests down Class III-IV rapids in large 16' rafts
- Setting up and taking down camp daily
- Preparing, serving, and cleaning 3 delicious meals a day in an outdoor kitchen
- 24-hour customer service on trips
- Providing guests with a great customer experience
- Ability to create a community and connecting with a group on a weekly basis
- Entertaining guests with jokes, stories, games, music, etc.
- Packing, cleaning, and organizing gear
Skills Needed:
- Ability to lead and be part of a team
- Desire to learn, grow, and develop
- Cooking ability, fishing knowledge, and camping skills are all needed skills but can be learning during spring training
- Knowledge of local history, wildlife, and geology or the willingness to learn
- Guiding experience whether on or off the river is a plus
- Rafting experience or ability to read water is also a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Strong athletic ability
- Capacity to carry 40lbs over uneven and rocky surfaces
- Ability to work and perform in 100F weather
Daily pay increases with experience and advanced medical/whitewater certifications
