What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time AmeriCorps Member position at AmeriCorps- Climate READY Program (Wayne State)?
We are seeking an Full Time Americorps Member to start immediately, to help our team with a variety of different tasks and programs. Americorps Members work directly with community members and share helpful information with others to improve the quality of life. Our Americorps Member will help gain knowledge about climate change issues, help educate the community, create community gardens, deliver much–needed supplies to those in need, and work with local businesses and nonprofits to make our communities even better.
The AmeriCorps Climate READY (R*ecreation, Education, Awareness, Demonstration, and Y*outh) Program is an opportunity to engage in outdoor recreation and the natural environment, while supporting residents of Detroit, MI in becoming climate change resilient.
AmeriCorps Climate Crisis Community Engagement Specialists will engage residents of the city of Detroit in discussions of climate change effects specific to their community, perform demonstrations of climate resiliency solutions, and provide relevant interventions based on climate change assessments done in and around the neighborhood.
This is done through the identification of indoor and outdoor environmental hazards, improvement of residential energy efficiency, implementation of green infrastructure, and clean water and air stewardship opportunities. The AmeriCorps Climate READY program values the respect and appreciation of the natural environment, community-based climate resiliency, and ecological stewardship.
This AmeriCorps member position is a paid opportunity to develop real-world skills and experience through hands-on service. This program exposes members to understanding climate change, environmental stewardship, ecological awareness, and civic and community engagement. Members will receive comprehensive training at the beginning of their term, as well as ongoing feedback and support to successfully achieve program objectives.

Eligibility and Skillset
- Climate READY is a service program within the AmeriCorps network. To be eligible for AmeriCorps, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and pass a comprehensive criminal history check.
- Work effectively with people of various backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrate a high degree of respect and sensitivity, particularly in conversations with community members about difficult subjects like the costs of flood damage, and when assessing residents’ homes for climate crisis impacts.
- Communicate professionally with program staff and community partners and respond promptly to email during scheduled work hours.
