What are the responsibilities and job description for the California AmeriCorps Disaster Team position at AmeriCorps?
Our AmeriCorps members serve under-resourced communities by engaging volunteers to provide preparedness education to individuals of all ages and supporting the recovery of community members who have been affected by local and national disasters. Members will also deploy to statewide disasters for up to 3 weeks at the behest of California Volunteers. Disaster Team members will serve approximately 40 hours per week for a total of 900 service hours in a 5.5-month term. Current opportunities are available in the greater Los Angeles area, Orange County, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, Chico and Fresno. Benefits include a bi-weekly stipend of $1,117.39 (paid every other Friday), health and dental coverage, and childcare assistance to those who qualify. Upon successful completion, members will receive an education award to use towards qualified student loans or future tuition. Members may also qualify for federal student loan forbearance during the period of service as well as an additional interest payment award. AmeriCorps members at the Red Cross receive invaluable experience with an internationally respected organization. They are given the opportunity to build their network while accruing professional development skills including communication, project management, leadership ability and interpersonal effectiveness. Member Duties : We are looking for self-motivated and passionate individuals to join the California AmeriCorps Disaster Team. Members will recruit and supervise volunteers to prepare and respond to local and national emergencies. Members will have the opportunity to deploy as part of a California statewide response team. Opportunities are available in the greater Los Angeles area, Orange County, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, Chico, and Fresno.
