More Than Words (MTW) is a social enterprise that empowers youth, ages 16-24, who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. By working as a team to manage their own retail and online used book business and community space, youth develop the employment skills, leadership, and self-confidence they need to successfully transition to adulthood. The purpose of this project is to create the tools, resources, and knowledgebase that improves More Than Words’ ability to empower system-involved young adults within the MTW model. Working directly with the Associate Director of Retail & Events, the Community Events VISTA will play a critical role in creating systems and networks to activate the store space to foster community, create higher level skill building within the job training program, and raise awareness of the More Than Words mission and model. This is an in-person role.
Member Duties : The Community Events Coordinator will engage with our youth participants and collaborate with our staff to create exciting events in our space, expand our audience and create partnerships with potential speakers, performers and sponsors. Help to build our free and discounted community events space sponsored by More Than Wordsproviding a safe community space for their events. Build a sustainable model for youth to take on the community event calendar with support of AD of Events and AD of Retail.
