What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lakes Region Conservation Corps position at AmeriCorps?
Lakes Region Conservation Corps members are the driving force behind many of the conservation efforts of New Hampshire's Lakes Region. The program is based out of the Squam Lakes Association with half-term positions available at the Green Mountain Conservation Group, Camp Hale, Squam Lakes Conservation Society, Lakes Region Conservation Trust, and Newfound Lake Region Association. The program provides hands-on conservation work experience over a broad range of areas, which ensure that members are capable of independently approaching a variety of tasks in the environmental conservation field. Half-year (900 hour) terms of service are available May- October. Member Benefits: Lakes Region Conservation Corps members enjoy a variety of benefits, regardless of host-site: - Wilderness First Aid & CPR Certification - Living allowance: AmeriCorps Segal Education Award received upon successful completion (minimim of 900 hours for half-year). - Student loan forbearance on qualifying loans Other benefits are available dependent upon term of service and host-site. Member Duties : Members remove invasive species, maintain trail networks, educate the public on local and regional conservation initiatives, spearhead reports on conservation efforts, lead volunteer crews, and more to drive the missions of environmental nonprofits in NH. The trainings, certifications, and experiences also develop important professional skills that are applicable to future careers within any occupational and educational field.
