What are the responsibilities and job description for the PCCE- Gettysburg College VISTA position at AmeriCorps?
Gettysburg College's mission is to prepare students from across the nation and around the globe to pursue lives of personal and professional fulfillment and to engage the complex questions of our time through effective leadership and socially responsible citizenship. One of the key challenges today is how we come together to improve our region, and we understand the importance of collaborating with local partners to create a more vibrant and thriving community. The South Mountain Partnership, a coalition of citizens, businesses, non-profits, academic institutions, and government agencies, published the State of the Region Report in Fall 2024. This document outlines key metrics that highlight the current state of our community and identifies opportunities for growth and improvement. Using the findings from the report, the VISTA member will support the South Mountain Partnership in implementing its recommendations, including integrating the findings into the South Mountain Research Corps program. The VISTA member will also work to strengthen partnerships between the college and the 40 partners that make up the South Mountain Partnership.
Member Duties : The goal of the Y3 VISTA project is to raise awareness of responsible behaviors that improve resource efficiency and cost savings both on campus and in the South Mountain region. The VISTA member will assist South Mountain Partnership with the implementation of recommendations from the State of the Region Report. This includes organizing events to engage the public and academic communities in providing feedback and supporting project implementation, as well as continuing strategic outreach efforts. The VISTA member will also explore new ways to engage youth leadership, including a potential internship program and youth representation on SMP committees. Additionally, at Gettysburg College, the VISTA member will strengthen capacity via the partnership between SMP and the College, while also developing structures and documents to ensure the continuation of the work after the VISTA project ends.
