POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for ensuring the safe and proper aircraft loading and offloading procedures are performed in accordance with Amerijet’s standards and FAA requirements. The Loadmaster interfaces directly with the Pilot-In Command, the Ramp/Station Manager, ground personnel, etc. The Loadmaster performs his/her duties and responsibilities in accordance with the policies, procedures and training as contained in the Weight and Balance Manual and the Cargo Operations Manual.
Job Responsibilities include the following, but not limited to:
- Supervise and support safe aircraft loading and offloading operations.
- Directs and supervises all labor groups who perform aircraft loading and unloading activities to ensure maximum levels of safety, efficiency and legality are maintained to prevent injury to personnel, damage to cargo, equipment and the aircraft.
- Acts as liaison in the field between Amerijet and its customers, vendors and authorities to ensure the highest levels of safety, efficient cargo operations schedule integrity and compliance with government regulations.
- Prepares weight and balance, dangerous goods and security documents, as applicable.
- Ensures all cargo intended for carriage on the aircraft is properly packaged, labeled, restrained, weighed and documented per Amerijet standards and government requirements.
- Operates the aircraft cargo doors and systems and promptly reports any missing, damaged or unserviceable components to the appropriate Amerijet personnel.
- Customs, immigration and other government agency requirements for international flights.
- Supervision of all cargo-related functions related to the flight, including inspection of ULDs, nets and equipment for airworthiness in accordance with the established manufacturers’ guidelines.
- Must account for the planned load, consider all aircraft restrictions, limitations and the load sequencing required to safely transport the cargo.
- Must ensure the offload and load verification procedures are followed and the verification form completed as described in the Amerijet’s Weight and Balance Manual and the COM.
- Accomplishing a complete check of the load prior to departure. This includes checking all locks, as applicable, to verify these are engaged and properly secured.
- Make any necessary documentation corrections due to loading discrepancies to ensure the Flight Release/Weight and Balance form reflects the actual load on the aircraft before providing to the Pilot-In-Command.
- Verifies the location of all dangerous goods loaded on Amerijet aircraft and ensures packages do not have any signs of leakage or have been compromised.
- Ensures all dangerous goods documentation and the NOTOC (notification to Captain) is presented and provided to the Pilot-In-Command for final review and acceptance.
- Ensures all international paperwork (i.e. Gen Dec, etc.) and cargo documents are onboard the aircraft prior to departure.
- Performs Ground Security Coordinator (GSC) functions as outlined in the GSC training.
- Completes forms and submits movement messages, Loadmaster Trip report, etc. in a timely manner.
- Special cargo reviews, analysis, load planning, and provides guidance on loading alternatives and the necessary support equipment (i.e. number of straps, loader requirements, etc.).
- Supports station ramp operations and aircraft loading and offloading, as appropriate.
- Conducts station audits, vendor program reviews and performs training (i.e. classroom, computer based training and on-the-job)
- Additional duties assigned by the ground operations management team
Performance Standards/Measurements:
- All documents prepared 2 hours prior to flight departure.
- All pallet weights are accurate with zero discrepancies.
- Ensure that on hold cargo is not transported to a destination.
- Maintain an on-time departure schedule.
- Maintain / complete the documents for each operation.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- A self-starter is required, must be able to work effectively with minimal to no supervision.
- Administration skills and proficient computer skills are mandatory.
- Prior customer service and conflict resolution experience is a plus.
- Certified in weight and balance or load planning preferred.
- Certified in acceptance, loading, stowage, and handling of Hazardous Materials preferred.
- Prior airline/freight forwarding experience is preferred.
- Identification of HAZMAT Materials and knowledge of proper handling (Preferably).
- Excellent organizational skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Bilingual English-Spanish desired, but not necessary.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to read, speak and understand English. Able to correspond in writing and verbally in a professional manner.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups' situations to customers, client and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding carrying out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be able to accomplish computerized transactions in PMI, Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, UNIX, Lotus Notre and Internet Explorer.
- Possess and maintain a valid Driver License and a driving record from the state of your primary residence that meets Amerijet’s insurance standards.
- Willingness to work 8-hr shift covering 24/7.
- Pass a ten (10) years criminal record background check for SIDA badge.
- Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position will not have direct reports but may require providing training for new team members.
Language Skills:
The employee must possess good interpersonal and communications skills, be able to effectively present information, respond to questions from managers and co-workers.
Physical Activities and Requirements of the Position:
Job duties include but are not limited to lifting, pulling, pushing, grasping, twisting (including wrists), reaching below and overhead, standing for long periods of time, squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing.
Warehouse climate conditions are subject to change without notice.
At times may work with or near moving mechanical parts (i.e.: cooler, dock equipment), in high precarious places (i.e. ladder work) and in cold/hot climate conditions.
Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to: computers, paging, telephones, human voices, sound system and machinery.
Must be able to work well under pressure.
The employee is regularly required to stand, frequently required walk, use hand to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Required to work in confined spaces.
