Ames CSD is seeking an Assistant Activities Director for the 2025-2026 school year.

Work Schedule: 255-day contract

Summary
Under the direction of the Activities Director, this position assists in providing organization, coordination, supervision, and scheduling of building and district activities.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This position requires expertise in educational programs, curriculum, pedagogy, professional development, and culturally sustaining instructional strategies. This position also requires directly related administrative experience to ensure success in an elementary school leadership role. This administrative experience includes leading collaboratively, supporting and promoting diversity, fostering a student-centered approach leading to student engagement and success, and creating and maintaining an emotionally healthy and physically safe school culture. This position has supervisory responsibilities for planning, assigning, supporting, and evaluating the work of licensed and classified employees. It requires strong communication and relationship-building skills with both internal and external stakeholders.


Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Supports and manages with the middle school Activities Coordinator and high school Activities Director to plan and develop a comprehensive activities program.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; evaluating employee performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems, and leading or assisting with student and/or staff investigations.
  • Supervises and oversees athletic and activity events, ensuring compliance with school policies and promoting sportsmanship.
  • Provides supervision and evaluation of all high school clubs.
  • Inspects activity facilities on a seasonal basis.
  • Coordinates transportation with contracted bus services, school issued vehicles for extra-curricular, co-curricular, clubs and field trips.
  • Organizes and supervises postseason surveys.
  • Supervises and is responsible for game day events and operations, including video boards.
  • Plans, coordinates, and communicates with event officials, events workers (concessions, ticket takers, announcers, scoreboard operators, custodians, etc.)
  • Assists with the development and administration of all financial aspects of the activities department to include budgeting, accounting and procurement.
  • Cooperates and collaborates with the facilities department in proper maintenance of facilities.
  • Serves as a point of contact with other schools, school districts, athletic associations, conferences, official assignors, officials for event information.
  • Manages and oversees pre-participation athlete paperwork.
  • Enters and manages schedules for Ames High Activities through Bound.
  • Supports the management of Bound.
  • Supervises and organizes IBall and other intramural sports.
  • Provides leadership in the area of social media for activities.
  • Attends meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information and continuous learning required to perform job functions.
  • May not hold a coaching position with ACSD.
  • May assume Activities Director's responsibilities in the absence of the AD.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Evaluator license from Iowa Board of Educational Examiners required.
  • Activities Administration Authorization from Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and/or master's degree in sports administration, management, business administration, education, theater, physical education, recreation services or a related field preferred.
  • Iowa school administrator's license preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a high school activities department preferred.

  • Consistent and regular attendance.

Compensation: Starting at $70,000; commensurate with experience.
