Overview

We are currently seeking a Psychiatric ARNP to join our team at Amethyst. Amethyst Recovery Center is a 40-bed substance abuse treatment facility licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families to provide Residential Detoxification and Residential Level I Treatment. The facility is also registered with the DEA and certified by SAMHSA to provide medication assistance treatment. The ARNP works under the guidance of the facility’s Medical Director & corporate leadership and works cooperatively with the facility’s multi-disciplinary team.

This is a full-time in-person position! The successful candidate will provide medical and psychiatric services for substance abuse patients 5 days/week with the potential of on-call hours.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master of Science or Doctoral Degree in Nursing from an accredited school.
  • Maintains a current, active, and unencumbered Florida APRN license.
  • Psychiatric Certification (PMHNP) required. Dual certification as FNP-C, a plus.
  • DEA registration (current and active), required.
  • Two years of post-master’s clinical experience working with patients suffering from primary substance abuse or mental health disorders under supervision of a physician.
  • Meet DCF Level II background screening and drug screening requirements.

  • Strong assessment and diagnostic skills, with the ability to formulate accurate clinical impressions and treatment plans.

Experience:

  • Psychiatric Nursing: 2 years minimum (Required), preferably in an inpatient or residential setting.
  • Primary Substance Abuse setting: 2 years minimum (Preferred)

Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in medication management and prescribing psychotropic medications, with a commitment to safe and ethical practice.
  • Psychiatric knowledge including DSM-5 Diagnostic & ASAM criteria for the management of patients with substance abuse and mental health disorders.
  • Capability to work within the context of a multidisciplinary treatment team by contributing expertise, incorporating input from other team members-especially the Medical Director, and valuing patient input.
  • Documenting symptoms, medications, treatment events, and writing summaries.
  • Actively listening and effectively communicating with patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and prescribing medications including discussing progress toward goals with patients, providing instructions, and monitoring the effect of medications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office365 Suite, preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, knowledge of KIPU EMR is a plus!
  • Commitment to providing patient-centered care with compassion, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Discretion with patient information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA.)
  • No active malpractice investigations

Responsibilities:

  • Performs comprehensive initial psychiatric examinations, psychiatric follow-ups, assessments, health & physical examinations, medication management services and other services for patients admitted to the facility as assigned, within timelines stipulated in the facility policies and procedures and in accordance with DCF 65-D30 licensing standards.
  • · Provides direct patient care services within the scope of their license in collaboration with other members of the facility’s treatment staff, under the direction and supervision of the Medical Director.
  • · Assures appropriateness of initial patient admissions and continuing patient care through application of accepted practices.
  • · Assesses for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms.
  • Provide withdrawal management in patients with alcohol, sedative and opioid use disorders.
  • Evaluates and manages detox regimes for patients in our care including writing orders and follow-up treatment as indicated.
  • Assesses for potential for self-inflected harm or level of danger to others.
  • Applies accepted criteria for diagnosis, placement, and treatment of mental health disorders (e.g. ASAM & DSM–V)
  • Assess & treat co-existing behavioral and mental health problems.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribes medications and manages patient's medication regimens that were prescribed and adjusts medication and dosages as deemed clinically appropriate and within standard medical practice.
  • Utilizes evidence-based practices to provide medication management and prescribe medications as needed in accordance with state regulations and clinical guidelines.
  • Instructs and educates patients regarding prescribed medications and treatment plans.
  • Assures completion of all documentation, to include progress notes, orders, assessments, and discharge summaries, psychiatric evaluations, H&Ps, in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assists with the overall medical quality management of the facility, providing guidance for treatment staff members.
  • Educate and provide MAT when indicated, using evidenced medicines.
  • Completes peer-to-peer reviews with insurance payors, as required.
  • Establishes rapport with patients.
  • Systematically gathers data.
  • Determines the readiness of the individual for treatment and change.
  • Educates patients about addiction and mental health disorders.
  • Collaborates with the clinical team to develop individualized treatment plans and curricula tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
  • Evaluates patient progress in collaboration with supervisor and multi-disciplinary team during the treatment course.
  • Maintains family contact /involvement via periodic calls with the family to educate and inform them regarding the patient's care, medication, or psychiatric status, as appropriate.
  • Provides after hours on-call coverage to coordinate any emergency medical or psychiatric need responses for facility patients, as needed.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary staff meetings on a daily basis and as required to coordinate and review the delivery of patient care.
  • Participates in facility performance improvement and utilization review activities, as it relates to psychiatric care.
  • Supports the policies, rules, and regulations of the facility, and acts in compliance with federal, state, and other regulatory bodies and agencies.
  • Maintains patient information (Protected Health Information-PHI) confidential and respects patient's rights to privacy (HIPAA)
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of psychiatric best practices, medication protocols, and emerging treatment modalities through ongoing education and professional development.
  • Maintains ethical & behavioral standards of conduct.
  • Attends in-service education programs and training (e.g., CPI, Safety training), in addition to mandatory new hire & annual training, or continuing education requirements.
  • Performs additional duties, as assigned or if deemed necessary by supervisor.
