The Technology Business Enablement (TBE) team powers American Express Tech Strategy by enabling Predictability, Transparency, and Efficiency through best-in-class Tech Business Management capabilities. Within TBE is the Technology Portfolio Management team (TPM) which powers technology, business, and product to achieve business and customer value by optimizing technology investments, elevating transparency and enabling decisioning through trusted insights and best in class portfolio and program management.

Within the Technology Portfolio Management team, the Agile Solutions Director will oversee and optimize the management of agile tools, including Jira and Rally, for our organization. This role combines operational oversight, strategic planning, and leadership to ensure the seamless operation and migration of these tools to Jira Cloud. The successful candidate will drive a robust migration strategy, manage dependencies, and ensure effective change management to support the organization’s agile transformation initiatives.

Moreover, as a leader of a high-performing technology portfolio organization, this candidate will have a passion for process innovation, data-driven mindset, relentless attention to detail, and the ability to build and leverage meaningful relationships with the team and partners.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Operational Management

    • Oversee the day-to-day management and maintenance of agile tools (Jira and Rally), ensuring high availability and performance.
    • Manage a ticketing support team to address user queries, resolve issues, and implement minor enhancements.
    • Ensure compliance with organizational standards, policies, and best practices for tool usage.

    Strategic Planning and Migration

    • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy and roadmap for migrating to Jira Cloud.
    • Conduct stakeholder analysis and ensure alignment of migration goals with organizational objectives.
    • Identify and manage dependencies across teams, tools, and workflows to facilitate a smooth migration.
    • Collaborate with technical teams to plan and execute data migration, integrations, and customizations.
    • Collaborate with the Change Management team to develop a robust change management framework to support the adoption of Jira Cloud.
    • Communicate migration plans, updates, and timelines effectively to all stakeholders.
    • Partner on design and deliver training programs and resources to enable seamless user transitions.
    • Monitor and address user feedback post-migration to ensure high satisfaction and adoption rates.

    Leadership and Collaboration

    • Lead a cross-functional team to deliver on operational and strategic goals.
    • Partner with Engineering, Product, PMO, and Tech & Business leaders to align agile tools with organizational processes and priorities.
    • Stay updated on emerging trends and advancements in agile tools to continuously improve solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
    • 8 years of experience in agile tool administration, project management, or agile transformation.
    • Proven experience in managing large-scale migrations to Jira Cloud or similar tools.
  • Technical Skills

    • Deep expertise in Jira and Rally administration, configuration, and usage.
    • Experience with Jira Cloud migration, including data transfer, integrations, and customizations.
    • Proficiency in scripting and automation tools to enhance tool functionality.
  • Leadership and Soft Skills

    • Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities.
    • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
    • Experience in leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
    • Adept at change management and driving user adoption in large organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SAFe Agilist, Certified Scrum Master (CSM), or similar agile certifications.
  • Atlassian Certified Jira Administrator.

Salary Range: $145,000.00 to $230,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
