The Bank Money Movement Risk team within CFR is responsible for developing and managing Credit & Fraud Risk Strategies for our Deposit Products at American Express. This team owns and develops strategies for controlling the risk of ACH, wire, check, Zelle P2P, and Bill Pay transactions.
We are seeking a Director of Money Movement Transaction Servicing to lead a group of risk management professionals. The incumbent will be responsible for partnering with our Enterprise Banking Services colleagues to identify opportunities to apply new and innovative ways to our transaction review process. Additionally, they will lead the Fraud Ring response for Bank Deposit products.
To deliver these outcomes, this colleague will partner closely with Product, Compliance, Operational Excellence, Enterprise Banking Services, and other stakeholder teams. This is a new role at American Express and will require setting up a new team and developing its operating model.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply innovative concepts to measure and manage risk consistent with regulatory and governance requirements. Including, but not limited to, Daily / Weekly / Monthly KPI reporting & monitoring.
- Review/Establish service level agreements with Operational teams that support CFR Bank Risk.
- Lead change in Operating Procedures utilized by our back-office colleagues for case reviews to improve outcomes (financial, compliance, UX)
- Lead change in Operating Procedures utilized by our Risk Strategy teams to improve outcomes (financial, compliance, UX)
- Lead, engage, and inspire a team of high performing risk management and data science professionals to leverage advanced analytics to drive strategy change.
- Partner closely with platform and capabilities teams to make enhancements to our technology platforms to improve outcomes
- Accountable for governance of transaction risk servicing strategies including: conducting a Risk Assessment of the existing process and identify gaps in the existing control environment, followed by gap closure.
- Be a trusted advisor for key business stakeholders for matters related to Fraud Servicing Strategy
- Identify and escalate to senior leadership observations, high residual-risk areas and emerging risk themes.
- Partner with Technology, Risk, Product Management, Compliance and other key Subject Matter Experts on initiatives to ensure standards/deliverables are achieved.

Minimum Qualifications
- 8 years of experience working in risk and control environment / risk management
- 6 years of experience working with data and leading analytical projects. Exceptional analytical skills.
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent disciplines.
- Qualitative/quantitative solutioning/problem solving in complex and unstructured environment.
- Highly detail oriented.
- Should have a strong technical acumen. Experience in technical skills such as Big Data, SQL, Hive, Python and automation is a plus.
- Expert project management skills with proven record of successfully leading and implementing complex, large-scale and cross-functional initiatives. Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities
- Demonstrated success in building strong partnerships through collaboration and leading large initiatives in a matrix environment
- Excellent problem solving and organizational skills
- Strong people leader and team player with a demonstrated ability to manage a high performing team and create a highly effective and results-driven culture
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of management
- Ability to bring structure to ambiguous areas of opportunity and thrive in an unstructured, fast paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience interacting with Fraud Risk operations teams and developing new processes
- People management experience with direct accountability for high-stakes outcomes
- Strong understanding of AXPs risk environment (pillars, committees etc.) and programs (PRSA, NPA, OREs etc.), products and services
- Six sigma training or equivalent training on process design/quality assurance
- Experience at a GSIB with direct review/oversight of Fraud Operations processes.
- Work hours of 7:00AM PHX to 4:00PM PHX / 9:00AM ET-6:00PM ET.
- Co-location with Fraud Operations colleagues
- Willingness and ability to successfully complete a case study as part of the interview process where you will propose a solution to a business problem
- Willingness and ability to complete a technical skills/knowledge assessment
Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
