Job Description

As a member of the Privacy & Data Law Group (PDLG) in the General Counsels Organization of American Express, this position will involve interfacing with colleagues globally on legal issues related to privacy and data, as well as working collaboratively with other stakeholders in a highly matrixed organization.
This position will be responsible for leading a team of experienced lawyers to provide best-in-class legal advice on applicable U.S. privacy laws. In addition, this role will provide strategic advice on global data-related laws as we build enterprise products and platforms, develop public policy positions, and create a flexible privacy and data management program of the future. This hybrid role will report to the Chief Privacy Counsel, based in New York City.
Here are just some examples of what you will do in this role :
- Provide thoughtful leadership to the PDLG lawyers supporting U.S. products and services, e.g., Consumer cards, B2B products, Resy, TLS, etc.;
- Proactively deliver pragmatic advice to senior executives at AXP on the wide range of novel privacy issues arising under U.S. state or federal privacy / data laws;
- Assist with our M&A activities to provide privacy support;
- Advise on strategic contractual negotiations for a wide range of commercial agreements;
- Partner with our global privacy team to elevate our regulatory strategy and enhance our customer facing disclosures, etc.;
- Develop fulsome processes to advise on privacy and data related legislative developments in the U.S.;
- Advocate on behalf of Amex in our trade associations and other external forums;
- Support the design and delivery of continuing legal education programs on privacy-related issues;
- Serve as a leader in the broader organization.

Salary Range : $220,000.00 to $320,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
