As a Payment Posting Specialist , you will be responsible for accurately recording payments, reviewing Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), managing adjustments, and ensuring account reconciliation. Your work plays a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records while adhering to HIPAA regulations and billing guidelines.
Location : Works in person at our office in San Juan Capistrano, CA.
Schedule : Monday - Friday, 8 : 30am-5 : 00pm.
Compensation : $21.00-$24.00 / hour.

JOB DESCRIPTION :
The Payment Posting Specialist accurately and efficiently records incoming patient and insurance payments onto patient accounts, which includes reviewing Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), applying correct payment amounts, managing adjustments, and resolving any discrepancies to maintain accurate accounts receivable records, all while adhering to HIPAA regulations and billing guidelines
QUALIFICATIONS :
Must be 18 years or older to apply for this position.
Successful completion of the ADP Selective Screening Services background check as well as any other state, federal or company required background / record check.
Education Requirement : High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred experience is at least 1 year of accounting or payment posting experience in a behavioral health treatment setting.
Physical Requirements : Ability to work on a computer / keyboard, use electronic systems, communicate with others through written and verbal formats, ability to sit for long periods of time, listening, reading comprehension, lifting up to 10 lbs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Ability to operate standard office machines and equipment, including telephones, computers, copy machines, fax machines, calculators, scanners, and shredders.
Ability to be professional and maintain a positive attitude and relationships with coworkers.
Excel at both written and verbal communications to convey essential information; must be able to utilize the proper linguistic syntax and spelling.
Basic understanding of insurance terminology (out-of-network benefits vs. in-network benefits, as well as coinsurance, co-pays, and deductibles), in addition to general billing practices.
Knowledge of Substance Use Disorder (SUD), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and Mental Health (MH) programs.
Knowledge of the clinical, medical, and miscellaneous services provided to the clients.
Ability to use computer software including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Quickbooks, CollaborateMD, NetSuite, and G Suite products.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Payment Posting Specialist will be assigned projects, based on his / her level of expertise, that include any, or all the following job responsibilities. The individual may also be assigned other duties as needed by their supervisor.
Post payments from insurance companies, patients, and other sources to the correct accounts.
Review data on insurance explanation of benefits (EOB’s) to ensure accurate payment posting.
Analyze EOB information, including co-pays, deductible, co-insurance, contractual adjustments, denials and more to verify accuracy of patient balances and expected allowed amounts from insurance.
Investigate and resolve outstanding account issues, including patient billing inquiries and insurance claim denials.
Report and monitor any payment discrepancies and anomalies to the Billing Director.
Reconcile accounts to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Follow up on and resolve credit balance accounts.
Monitor accounts receivable aging.
Investigate the source of unidentified payment to ensure they are applied to appropriate accounts. If necessary, contact the sender to clarify where the payment should be posted.
Generate reports on key metrics like daily payment volume, outstanding accounts receivable, and denial rates.
