What are the responsibilities and job description for the MACHINIST- LATHE CLASS B (Proto-Trak) position at AMG, Inc?
AMG, Inc. is an employee owned AS9100:D certified manufacturer located in Lynchburg, Virginia. We are looking to additional Class B Lathe Machinists to 1st shift. The ideal candidate will have 3 or more years of experience operating and programming a conversational (Proto-trak) lathe. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, however, other duties may apply.)
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner
- Properly and safely loads and unloads castings and raw materials in machinery
- Proficient at reading and interpreting blueprints
- Complete knowledge of measuring instruments
- Uses gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements
- Ability to power on, setup, program, operate and troubleshoot machinery without assistance
- Ability to reduce setup time and machining through process improvements
- Must have ability to recognize, understand and properly use cutting tools
- Properly identifies use of inserts, grades, chip formers, fixtures and tooling
- Understands and has the ability to perform geometry and tool wear offsets
- Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery
- Assists in the organization and maintenance of the machine shop work
- Provides constant feedback and input into process improvement within the department to improve productivity and quality
- Proficient at understanding and have the ability to follow manufacturing processes and procedures
- Complies with all quality policies, specifications, regulations and instructions
- Communicates thoughts and ideas, both verbally and in writing, to co-workers and management
- Is flexible with time and schedule to assure availability to customer or company as circumstances warrant
- Communicates honestly, professionally and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skills
