What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Academic Officer position at Amherst County School District?
Reports to: Superintendent
General Definition of Work: Responsible for evaluation, development, and implementation of all aspects of the Division-wide curricular, instructional, and assessment programs
Essential Functions:
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates all instructional staff which support:
Gifted and Talented Education and Enrichment
Core Area Curriculum and Instruction
Elementary Resource Teachers
SOL Resource Program
Technology Program
Local Remediation Program
School Counseling
Assessment
- Examines SOL test results and other standardized test results to determine changes to curricular, instructional, and assessment practices to improve student achievement
- Works with, directs, and evaluates the Coordinator of Instruction and Assessment for SOL, SELP, Stanford Testing, and all testing programs
- Oversees operation of the Student Information System and Information Collection
- Works directly with teachers, principals, and other central office staff to provide curriculum development opportunities
- Works directly with teachers, principals, and other central office staff to determine and provide intervention/remediation opportunities as needed
- Oversees development, implementation, and review of the Division Support Plan, School Support Plans, and all school improvement processes
- Oversees funds related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Completes state reports relating to curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Collaborates with the Human Resources Office for the development and implementation of the Division Professional Development Program for Instruction
- Provides monthly instructional updates to the School Board
- Reviews and updates Amherst County Public Schools’ Policies related to Instruction
- Coordinates with principals regarding the master schedule for schools
- Meets with parents and/or staff members to address problems or concerns regarding curriculum, instruction, and/or assessment
- Facilitates and coordinates implementation of online course offerings
- Collaborates with the Chief Human Resources Officer to determine FTE positions according to the SOQs and the Local Budget
- Collaborates with the Chief Human Resources Officer to interview, observe, support, and document areas of concern related to employees
- Collaborates with the Chief Finance Officer to prepare and administer the instruction and technology budgets
- Provides expenditure control for requisitioning and ordering textbooks, materials, equipment, technology, and staff development for the instructional program
- Collaborates with the Superintendent to provide recommendations regarding administrative assignments based on meeting the requirements of VDOE and the ACPS Principal Evaluation System
- Approves, monitors, and reports all out-of-county travel for Amherst County Public Schools employees
- All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
Education and Job Experience: Doctorate and superintendent license preferred. School principal experience preferred
License/Endorsements: Valid state license with an endorsement of Administration and Supervision PreK-12
Contract Period: 12 months
FLSA Status: Exempt
