Learning Specialist - Amherst Middle School
Amherst Middle School is seeking a Learning Specialist (Special Educator) for the 2025-2026 school year with knowledge and training in inclusion practices, co-teaching, competency based education, delivery of specialized instruction in math, writing, reading, and executive functioning, and behavior management practices. Experience is preferred in collecting and analyzing data for instructional planning, ability to multi-task for optimum implementation of instruction and a capacity to support students in all academic areas of reading, writing and math, and co-planning with classroom teachers for co-teaching and differentiation in a competency based grading system.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support Core classes in an inclusion and/or co-teaching model
- Provide direct instruction in small groups
- Responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of individualized goals and the maintenance of special education

- Consult, collaborate, and coordinate with team members regarding services
- Consult with team members on curriculum modifications and accommodations based on learning needs
- Provide staff with resources, tools, and in-class recommendations related to students’ needs
- Provide consultative services to parents, teachers, and other educational personnel
- Responsible for coordination of home and school communication regarding educational programing when appropriate
- Ensure accurate data collection and analysis
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary team in development of student programming
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Certified as Special Education Teacher (1900)
- Three or more years experience in a similar role
- Strong knowledge of Special Education Law
- Experience in a middle school
Preferred
- Knowledge and experience in a Multi-Tier System of Support
- Knowledge and experience in Standards Based Grading
- Experience in a co-teaching model
- Experience providing instruction to all ranges of learners, including intervention, special education services, and extended learning
