Job Title: Child Nutrition Services Manager
Position Overview: The Child Nutrition Services Manager is pivotal in managing and overseeing all aspects of the district's child nutrition programs and ensuring students receive nutritious, safe, and high-quality meals. The Child Nutrition Services Manager will lead a dedicated team to deliver meals in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while aligning with the district’s mission of fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development:
- Lead and manage the Child Nutrition Services team, ensuring staff are motivated, well-trained, and aligned with the district’s mission.
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes accountability, growth, and collaboration.
- Provide ongoing professional development opportunities, mentorship, and feedback to support staff in reaching their full potential.
Nutrition Program Oversight:
- Oversee daily operations of the child nutrition program, ensuring all meals meet federal, state, and district nutritional standards.
- Ensure that meals are nutritious, safe, and served in a timely manner.
- Manage menu planning to offer a variety of nutritious, culturally diverse, and appealing meal options that meet the dietary needs of all students, including those with special dietary requirements.
Sustainability & Innovation:
- Lead efforts to incorporate sustainable practices in the kitchen, such as reducing food waste, utilizing locally sourced ingredients, and promoting environmentally friendly practices.
- Stay current on emerging nutrition trends and research, and implement innovative strategies to enhance the meal program, focusing on student satisfaction and health outcomes.
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all child nutrition services are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including food safety, sanitation, and nutritional guidelines.
- Regularly review and update safety procedures to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment for both staff and students.
Budget Management & Resource Allocation:
- Develop, manage, and monitor the child nutrition services budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high food quality.
- Optimize inventory management and ordering processes to minimize waste and ensure the efficient use of district resources.
Stakeholder Engagement & Community Involvement:
- Serve as a liaison between the nutrition services department, school administrators, families, and external vendors.
- Engage with students, staff, and parents to gather feedback, promote healthy eating habits, and improve meal offerings.
- Promote child nutrition awareness in the community and school district through events, educational programs, and partnerships.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to food quality, student satisfaction, budget compliance, and staff performance.
- Analyze data and provide regular reports to district leadership to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with district goals.
Strategic Planning:
- Contribute to the district’s long-term goals related to student health and wellness by identifying opportunities to enhance and expand the child nutrition services program.
- Stay informed about nutrition-related trends, legislation, and innovations to help shape the future of child nutrition services in the district.
Qualifications:
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Service Management, or a related field required.
- Certified Dietary Manager (CDM), Certified Food Protection Professional (CFPP), or similar certification preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in child nutrition or food service management, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education or certifications.
Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of child nutrition, including nutritional standards, meal planning, food safety, and special dietary needs.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal food safety regulations and guidelines for child nutrition services.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale food service operations, budgeting, and staff development.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop staff.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to innovate and stay ahead of nutrition trends and needs of diverse student populations.
