Position Overview
The Director of Operations is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the seamless and effective functioning of the district’s operational services. Reporting directly to senior leadership, the Director oversees and aligns the strategic and day-to-day operations of three critical departments: Transportation and Custodial Operations, Facilities, Construction and Special Projects, and Child Nutrition Services. This role demands a proactive, detail-oriented leader with the ability to collaborate across departments, solve problems, and deliver high-quality operational support for the district's students, staff, and community.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation and Custodial Operations
- Leadership: Direct and supervise the Manager of Transportation and Custodial Operations to ensure service excellence and accountability.
- Transportation Services: Oversee the safe, timely, and efficient operation of all student transportation services, including fleet maintenance and compliance with safety standards.
- Custodial Operations: Ensure all school facilities meet cleanliness, safety, and sanitation standards through effective custodial management.
- Resource Allocation: Establish protocols to optimize staffing, scheduling, and resource use across transportation and custodial functions.
Facilities, Construction, and Special Projects
- Facilities Management: Supervise the Manager of Facilities and coordinate maintenance teams, including specialists (e.g., electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians), to guarantee operational readiness and safety.
- Project Oversight: Plan and manage construction and special projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Compliance: Ensure all facilities comply with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
- Infrastructure Planning: Prioritize maintenance and capital improvement needs to maintain functionality and support district growth.
Child Nutrition Services
- Program Leadership: Guide the Manager of Child Nutrition Services to deliver safe, nutritious, and appealing meals across all district schools.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to state and federal guidelines, including meal patterns, food safety standards, and health inspections.
- Operational Efficiency: Oversee menu planning, inventory control, procurement, and cost-effective food service delivery.
- Staff Development: Support the recruitment, training, and performance management of food service staff.
Strategic Leadership and Administration
- Cross-Departmental Leadership: Collaborate with department managers to align operational goals with the district’s strategic mission.
- Budget Oversight: Develop, monitor, and manage departmental budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Policy Implementation: Establish and enforce policies and procedures to drive operational efficiency and accountability.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary liaison between district administration, staff, and external partners to resolve operational challenges and enhance service delivery.
- Performance Monitoring: Regularly assess and report on departmental performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
- Long-Term Planning: Contribute to the district's strategic planning by forecasting operational needs and identifying opportunities for innovation and growth.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business Administration, Educational Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of operational management experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role overseeing multiple departments.
- Expertise: Strong understanding of school district operations, including transportation, facilities, and nutrition services.

Salary
Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
