About the Project/Clinic:
AMI will be assisting in providing medical staff to the Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM, to help deliver compassionate and quality healthcare to patients in the area.
Job Summary:
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) at Gallup Indian Medical Center will provide comprehensive and empathetic nursing care to patients presenting with a wide range of medical emergencies. The RN utilizes critical thinking, clinical expertise, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely, effective, and culturally competent care. This position plays a vital role in the hospital’s mission to deliver high-quality emergency services to the community it serves.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assess and develop individualized plans of care for patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
- Triage patients accurately using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) system.
- Initiate treatments, medications, emergency, and resuscitative measures in accordance with current standards of emergency care.
- Collaborate with attending providers to coordinate a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Ensure coordination of available resources to address the social, emotional, age-specific, educational, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families.
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' clinical conditions, including history and physical examinations, and interpret findings to implement appropriate nursing actions.
- Continuously communicate changes in patient status to the primary provider and adjust care plans accordingly.
- Support the charge nurse in maintaining efficient patient flow and departmental operations to ensure patient safety, confidentiality, and timely care delivery.
- Maintain current knowledge and proficiency in emergency nursing practices through continuing education and certifications.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development and evaluation of standards of care.
- Exhibit professionalism and empathy in all interactions with patients, families, healthcare staff, and other departments.
- Provide care on a rotational basis including day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts to ensure uninterrupted patient services.
The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs.
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Education & Experience:
- Active, unrestricted RN license.
- Minimum of three (3) years of Emergency Department experience, including at least two (2) years in a Level III Trauma setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) AND/OR Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
