Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our team at the VA Medical Center in Augusta, Maine. The Phlebotomist will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to our nations veterans by performing blood draws, specimen collection, and processing with precision and professionalism. Experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting is preferred.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Work in multiple areas of the lab based on service needs.
· Perform inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy, including ward rounds, Emergency Department (ED), STAT, ASAP, and timed draws.
· Conduct sample processing and send-out preparation.
· Ensure patient safety by positively identifying patients before sample collection and testing.
· Maintain and safeguard electronic and paper patient information.
· Identify, document, and resolve collection, processing, testing, and reporting issues.
· Provide professional, patient-centered care to ensure a positive experience for all stakeholders.
· Address patient concerns with empathy and professionalism to minimize complaints.
· Adhere to Veterans Affairs (VA) guidelines and protocols to deliver high-quality laboratory services.
The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team.
· Excellent communication and time management skills.
· Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
Education & Experience:
· Minimum 3 years of recent experience required
· High school diploma or equivalent; Phlebotomy certification from an accredited program (preferred)
· Strong understanding of medical terminology, specimen handling, and safety regulations
· Experience working in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting highly preferred
