About the Project/Clinic:
AMI will assist in providing staffing to VA Medical Centers across the Nation upon request. This role will be located at the Atlanta VA Healthcare System and its outpatient clinics.
Job Summary:
The Psychiatrist will be responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric services to Veterans enrolled for care in the Atlanta VA Healthcare System Outpatient Clinics. The psychiatrist will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, including diagnostic evaluations, psychiatric consultation, medication management, and psychotherapy to male and female adult Veterans. This role requires strong clinical judgment, collaboration within an interdisciplinary team, and dedication to improving the mental health and well-being of Veterans.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations and psychiatric consultations for male and female adult Veterans.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications as part of treatment plans.
- Provide individual psychotherapy and general clinical management of patients.
- Assess risk factors and develop preliminary disposition plans, involving the Veteran and their family/significant other with consent.
- Diagnose and treat common psychiatric conditions, including but not limited to:
- Anxiety Disorders
- Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Major Depression and other mood disorders
- Substance Use Disorders
- Bipolar Disorder
- Schizophrenia and other Serious Mental Illnesses
- Mental disorders related to Traumatic Brain Injuries
- Conduct assessments for complex psychiatric cases, including those involving catastrophic medical conditions, dementia, and high-risk diagnoses.
- Utilize clinical expertise to adapt standard psychiatric theories and develop innovative treatment techniques.
- Collaborate with a behavioral health interdisciplinary treatment team to provide holistic patient care.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with clinical service providers within the medical center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
- Provide telephone and curbside consultations as needed and screen consults for appropriateness before scheduling.
- Offer direct clinical supervision to mid-level providers, psychiatric advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, and other staff as appropriate.
- Conduct telephone and telehealth assessments as required.
- Participate in medical duties related to quality of care, peer review, and performance improvement activities.

Required Skills/Abilities:

- Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
Education & Experience:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Psychiatry.
- Valid and unrestricted medical license.
- Experience in providing psychiatric care to adult populations, preferably in a VA or outpatient setting.
- BLS and ACLS Certifications
