What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer 2025 Software Engineering Intern position at Amidon Heavy Industries?
Amidon Heavy Industries (Amidon) is a venture-backed company transforming America's maritime capabilities. We specialize in autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) designed to address modern maritime challenges. By leveraging breakthroughs in manufacturing, energy systems, and autonomy, we deliver scalable solutions tailored for the evolving needs of naval operations.
For years, legacy companies have struggled to advance subsea technology, leaving critical gaps in innovation and capability. Amidon takes a fresh approach, breaking away from outdated practices to design affordable, high-performance systems that enhance naval security and fleet logistics.
As we grow, we are seeking passionate, driven individuals to join a dynamic, innovative, and high-energy team that is at the forefront of subsea robotics. In this fast-paced startup environment, collaboration, creativity, and idea-sharing are integral to our success. We are looking for a Software Engineering Intern to help drive the next phase of development, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in undersea robotics.
Responsibilities :
- Assist in developing mobile or desktop applications used to monitor, control, and interface with AUVs.
- Help integrate and calibrate sensors (e.g., sonar, IMUs, depth sensors) into the AUV software stack, ensuring accurate data collection and communication.
- Contribute to the development of communication protocols and systems for remote control, telemetry, and data transfer between the AUV and surface stations.
- Support the development and testing of autonomy features, including path planning, navigation, and basic decision-making algorithms for the AUV.
- Assist in testing and debugging software in both simulated environments and real-world deployments. Work with the team to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to sensor data, communications, or system integration.
- Work closely with engineers across hardware, software, and mechanical disciplines to ensure the integration and functionality of software with the AUV's systems.
