We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Payroll Manager to join our team and manage all payroll processes for our growing workforce.
Job Summary:
The Payroll Manager will oversee payroll operations for our civil construction company. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with labor laws, and effective management of wage-related matters. This role requires strong attention to detail, familiarity with construction payroll complexities, and the ability to work with multiple job sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the processing of payroll for hourly and salaried employees, including field workers, subcontractors, and office staff.
- Ensure timely and accurate calculation of wages, benefits, bonuses, and deductions in compliance with company policies and applicable laws.
- Review timesheets, attendance records, and work schedules to ensure proper payroll processing.
- Manage and maintain prevailing wage payroll compliance.
- Handle payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Work closely with the accounting department to ensure correct reporting and record-keeping.
- Coordinate with HR for new hires, terminations, and status changes that affect payroll.
- Stay updated on changes in labor laws, tax regulations, and wage compliance to ensure full legal compliance.
- Generate and maintain payroll reports, including detailed cost reports for job costing and project analysis.
- Assist with year-end reporting, including tax filing and W-2 preparation.
- Ensure compliance with safety, tax, and other legal requirements related to payroll.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of payroll experience in a construction or unionized environment.
- Strong knowledge of construction payroll processes, including prevailing wage requirements.
- Proficient with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, or similar).
- Experience with job costing and project-based payroll.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of state and federal labor laws, tax regulations, and compliance standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
Preferred Requirement:
- Experience with ERP systems such as Procore, Viewpoint, or similar.
