The Opportunity
St. Peter’s Health, a non-profit community health system located in Helena Montana, seeks a highly strategic and operational leader who will join the organization as the Chief Information Officer (CIO). This is a fantastic opportunity for an accomplished information executive to establish a comprehensive vision and strategy for information technology across the enterprise.
The Organization
St. Peter's Health is comprised of a 123-bed acute care hospital, physician clinics, cancer treatment center, behavioral health unit, urgent care clinics, home health and hospice care, dialysis center and ambulance services. St. Peter's Health provides healthcare services to an estimated 97,000 residents of Lewis and Clark, Broadwater, Jefferson, Meagher, and Powell counties.
The Position
The CIO will serve as a key member of the executive team and partner with the organization’s clinical and administrative leaders to drive achievement of the organization’s mission and strategic goals. The CIO will provide strategic and operational leadership to guide the future direction of the IT enterprise and enable high quality service to clinical and business operations. The CIO will lead the development, implementation and operation of Information Services to meet the business and clinical needs of St. Peter’s Health and drive the optimization of clinical and business processes through methods improvement and the application of advanced information technology. An excellent CIO must have a solid IT background and consistently keep current with advancements of the field. Apart from their education and experience, he/she must have every quality of a leader and a strong strategic and business acumen.
The CIO will provide vision and leadership for the development and implementation of information technology in the support of the delivery and implementation of value to customers through cost effectiveness, clinical and business quality, service excellence and access. As St. Peter’s Health continues forward in system integration, the CIO will advance the continued alignment of IT team members, systems, platforms, priorities, budgets and capital planning. The CIO will ensure structures and processes to support IT core processes, including IT Governance, project portfolio management, contract management, service desk, analytics, cyber security, and application and infrastructure rationalization.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have 10-plus years of progressive experience in information technology leadership, including five or more years as CIO or senior IT Executive. Healthcare experience is strongly preferred, particularly experience within a community health system. Rural health experience is a plus. An undergraduate degree in the field of computer science or business administration is required; a master’s degree is strongly preferred.

Helena, Montana, is Montana’s Capital City and located between Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park. Helena also boasts a vibrant cultural center with a busy event calendar, eclectic shopping, art galleries, terrific local bands, great restaurants, local microbreweries, and an epic trail system. The city is situated near the Missouri River, at the eastern foot of the Continental Divide (elevation 3,955 feet [1,205 meters]), in Prickly Pear Valley, a fertile region surrounded by rolling hills and lofty mountains. Mount Helena (5,462 feet) and Mount Ascension (5,360 feet) form scenic backdrops.
