The Opportunity
Ashland Medical Center (AMC) is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, results-oriented healthcare executive to serve as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the locally led, community based, critical access hospital dedicated to providing healthcare services to the residents of northwest Wisconsin. This is an exciting opportunity to lead operations of a high quality and financially stable organization.
As a member of the senior leadership team and reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Operating Officer (COO) serves in a key leadership role that is responsible and accountable for operational leadership for the AMC campus of Tamarack Health. Through empowered leadership within a collegial team-based culture, the COO creates an atmosphere that enhances employee, patient, and physician satisfaction while delivering cost effective, accessible, and high-quality, high-value healthcare services to the community and region.

The Ideal Candidate
Ashland Medical Center is a not-for-profit, 25-bed Critical Access Hospital with $155M in annual net revenue that provides general medical and several specialty services, including behavioral health adding an additional 10-bed inpatient unit along with outpatient services. With more than 650 employees, Ashland Medical Center is a major employer in its service area and benefits from a loyal, dedicated workforce and strong community support.
Tamarack Health is a community-based health organization serving the medical needs of northwest Wisconsin with main medical center campuses in Ashland and Hayward along with an outreach clinic in Superior. Tamarack Health has over 1,200 dedicated employees, 100 skilled physicians and providers, and a 50-bed skilled nursing facility, and assisted and independent living facilities. The Ideal Candidate
- An advanced degree in business administration, healthcare management, or related field is required.
- Minimum of seven years of progressive responsibility experience in healthcare management required, three years in a director-level role or above preferred.
- Leadership experience within a critical access hospital, community or regional-based rural acute care hospital setting is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in building and maintaining positive, effective, and productive physician/hospital relationships with both independent and employed physicians.
- Establishes personal and professional credibility, gains respect and builds trust with leadership, peers and staff. Known as a collaborative, relationship-oriented, visible member of the leadership team within the organization.
