The Opportunity
Aspirus Health, a nonprofit, community-directed health system, seeks an accomplished leader to serve as Vice President of Operations for Aspirus Wausau Hospital, the flagship hospital for Aspirus Health. The prior leader in this role retired after 34 years of service with Aspirus Health. This is an outstanding opportunity for a talented, operationally focused, and relationship oriented professional to join a dynamic, high performing senior leadership team and impact the future of an exceptional community health system and the people it serves.
The Position
The Vice President of Operations provides strategic vision, leadership, organizational direction and management to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, its clinical and ancillary service programs, departments, and functions. Areas of responsibility include surgical services, cath lab, EP lab, respiratory, therapies, dietary, and environmental services. Has accountability to ensure that all key constituency groups are aligned in achieving objectives outlined through the organizations strategic operating plan. Engaged in and accountable for leadership and management of the functions assigned under the direction of the President. This position reports to the President, Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
The Ideal Candidate
Aspirus Wausau Hospital provides primary, secondary and tertiary care services as a regional referral center. Specialty referral service emphasis exists in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, orthopedics and cancer. The hospital has an average daily inpatient census of 223 with approximately 15,000 admissions per year. Outpatient visits exceed 50,000 and there are also more than 24,000 annual emergency department visits. Best known for its world-class cardiovascular program, Aspirus Wausau Hospital also provides leading edge cancer, trauma, women’s health, spine and neurological care.
Aspirus Health is a nonprofit, community-directed health system based in Wausau, Wisconsin, serving northeastern Minnesota, northern and central Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The health system operates 18 hospitals and 130 outpatient locations with nearly 14,000 team members, including 1,300 employed physicians and advanced practice clinicians.

Wausau is located in central Wisconsin, 150 miles north of Madison, on the Wisconsin River in Marathon County. Wausau is Arts Town, USA. The Ideal Candidate
- Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration/Business Administration or related health field required.
- Membership in the American College of Healthcare Executives preferred.
- Five years of progressive management experience that includes both hospital and/or ambulatory care.
- Experience and leadership within tertiary level surgical services is required.
- Operational experience in a complex environment with multiple areas of responsibility.
