Electrical Design Engineer

Position Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated electrical engineer to play a key role in Ampacity’s expanding Electrical Balance-of-Systems (eBOS) division. As an Electrical Design Engineer (Entry-Level), you will directly impact the development of utility-scale solar projects by assisting in electrical designs, optimizing system performance, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. This role offers the chance to grow in a fast-paced, innovative environment while working alongside industry experts.

Location: Remote or Ampacity Offices (Tampa, FL, Monterey, CA, or Burlington, VT)

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

• Assist with the electrical design and layout of utility-scale solar projects, including take-offs, BOMs, and NEC-compliant plans.
• Support the development and standardization of eBOS solutions in collaboration with the Lead Electrical Engineer.
• Help onboard and implement design and optimization tools like PVFarm and contribute to process improvements.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, structural, and procurement teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Contribute to technical documentation, automation initiatives, and knowledge sharing to drive team efficiency and innovation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
• 1-3 years of experience in PV design or electrical engineering.
• Solid udnerstanding of utility-scale solar PV systems, NEC standards, and electrical Balance-of-System (eBOS) components.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and solar design tools such as PVFarm, Helioscope, or similar.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail; experience creating BOMs and take-offs is a plus.
• Clear communicator and collaborative team player, comfortable working across engineering, sales, and procurement functions.
• Up to 10% annually may be required for site visits, customer meetings, or industry events.
