Job Title: Cable Assembly Drafter/ Designer Department: EngineeringReports To: Cable Assembly Engineering Manager
Position requires candidates to be U.S. person as defined in ITAR, 22CFR 120.15 (U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien Status)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Computer-Aided Drafter and Detailer is responsible for creating drawings in the development of new products and the improvement of existing products. Develop and prepare designs, piece part and assembly drawings.
Essential Functions:
Update existing drawings
Conceptualize design solutions to given or stated requirements
Research and analyze problems and initiate recommendations and develop possible design solutions for implementation
Work with manufacturing engineering and operations to ensure the sufficiency of drawing's detail (Bills of Material, special notes/instructions, standards) which facilitate manufacturability
Order, assemble and enable the testing of new products
Solve design related problems with respect to performance, producibility and product delivery
Soft skills: AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Visio
Possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
Liaison with engineering personnel
Able to move from design concept to finished design, including layouts and tolerance valuations, and detail drawings.
Ability to learn and execute established procedures and programs
Able to follow established procedures to complete required cable assembly designs
Prepares layouts, assembly, and detail drawings for fiber optic cable assemblies based on inputs from Sales/customer
Update drawings per customer's request (As-built and Engineering change notices)
Work with component engineering to obtain models for cable assembly components
Analyzes various design requirements and recommends possible solutions or alternate constructions
Verify that cable assembly parts are setup in company ERP system
Route and ensure drawings are signed off and submitted for final release
Ensure cable assembly cycle times are met or improved
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read (write and speak in English) and interpret assembly drawings from internal and customer specifications
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
Proficient in SolidWorks
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Detail oriented
Strong understanding of best practices in customer service
Strong team player
Required Education and Experience:
One to two years of college or trade school education in engineering drawing/CAD design
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for formal training.
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to satisfy AFSI ITAR requirements
