We are currently seeking a well-qualified candidate for the position of Trade Compliance Specialist, to support operations in North America. The individual in this role will be responsible for ensuring adherence to international trade regulations, managing documentation, risk assessments, and creating compliance training programs. In this role, the individual will interpret trade laws and regulations and advise on import/export procedures for sourced material and final assembly products. The Trade Compliance Specialist will exercise educated judgment to mitigate risks and prepare timely documentation for audit and control. This individual will establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, brokers, and government agencies to ensure trusted and ethical business practice for internal and external sourcing and delivery. This role requires continuous education, and the ability to train internal team members on evolving import/export requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Risk Management: Identify potential trade compliance risks and implement mitigation strategies. Perform internal and external audits to ensure compliance.
Compliance: Ensure import/export trade compliance for sourced material and Final Assembly products. Stay up-to-date on changes in trade regulations, tariffs, and sanctions. Ensure that import and export activities comply with applicable laws and regulations. Maintain accurate records of international transactions.
Classification and Documentation: Accurately classify materials according to HTS and other relevant codes. Prepare and review import/export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and COOs. Review and audit USMCA certificates and communicate findings to all parties for compliance.
License and Permit Management: Obtain and manage necessary export licenses and permits. Ensure timely and accurate filing of required documentation with customs agencies.
Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with internal departments to ensure compliance. Collaborate with customs brokers, and other external parties to facilitate smooth trade operations. Respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders regarding trade compliance. Support and train internal team members on import/export requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The individual should be self-motivated and capable of working as part of a team or alone with little supervision.
Able to collect, research and analyze import/export related data.
Able to write concisely and effectively is essential. Assisting with writing procedures, reports, business letters and newsletters.
Able to prioritize, work to meet objectives and to manage multiple activities/projects simultaneously.
Ability and willingness to learn all aspects of Import/Export Compliance, achieving certifications such as a Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer (CUSECO), and Licensed Customs Broker (LCB), completing training courses, and attending seminars and conferences.
Familiarity with Import, Export and CTPAT government terminology is preferred, but not required.
This position may require occasional business travel with overnight stays.
In-depth experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
