WHEY PROCESSING OPERATOR - CHEESE PLANT DAYS

AMPI owns seven Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation’s American-type cheese, processed cheese and butter is produced. The cooperative’s award-winning cheese, butter and powdered dairy products are marketed to foodservice, retail and food ingredient customers. In 2019, the co-op launched its Dinner Bell Creamery brand and accompanying Co-op Crafted promise, highlighting more than 50 years of dairy farm families partnering with skilled buttermakers and cheesemakers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time:

1. All AMPI employees have an obligation to report employee safety, food safety and food quality issues to personnel of authority.
2. This position has a heightened food safety and food quality responsibilities.
3. Operate the following equipment and adjust to maximize processing efficiencies:
   1. Separators
   2. Clarifiers
   3. Cream HTST (provides assistance to Pasteurizer Operator) and Balance Tank
   4. Whey HTST (provides assistance to Pasteurizer Operator) and Balance Tank
   5. Whey Filter Manifold
   6. CIP System
   7. CIP Hot Set
   8. Chillers & Cooling Plates
   9. Milk Trim Heater to Vats (provides assistance to Pasteurizer Operator)
   10. Cream Loadout Processing Equipment
   11. High Strength Waste Process Equipment
4. Responsible for handling the cream loadout process.
5. Responsible for utilizing best practices when monitoring and processing high strength waste.
6. Responsible for following CIP procedures and recording proper documentation.
7. Follows chemical titration requirements and is responsible for following proper chemical handling procedures.
8. Documenting necessary information, as required by state and federal regulations.
9. Share duties with the General Labor and Pasteurizer Operator.
10. Proper cleanup and recordkeeping of equipment operations.
11. Responsible for cream sampling and making equipment adjustments based on lab results.
12. Maintain good housekeeping and cleanup of equipment and supplies in work area; comply with all regulatory requirements and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
13. Continuous food safety and quality.
14. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
• Required to obtain Pasteurizer license within 12 months if classes are available.
