Job Description

Job Summary: 

Under the direct supervision of the Secondary Principal, the Secondary (6-12th grade) Assistant Principal is responsible for secondary school management, school activities and services, community relations, personnel, curriculum instruction, student support and discipline.  The Secondary Assistant Principal will be expected to adhere to Amplus Academy’s professional standards as well as Nevada Department of Education licensure standards.  

 

Amplus Academy is a K-12 public charter school located in the southwest area of Las Vegas.  Amplus Academy has two campuses serving Kindergarten- 12th grade students.  

 

Terms of Employment: 243 Contracted Work Days (12 month position)

 

Campus: Durango (K-12 Campus)

 

Salary:  The compensation for this position is based on years of experience and degree(s) held. Compensation for all positions are determined by the Governing Board and Administration of Amplus Academy. Consideration is given for experience and specialized skills in determining salary.

 

Salary Range:  $80,000- $100,000 with 100% Employer Paid PERS dependent on education, licensure and experience

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position controls, directs, or holds accountable the work of the secondary instructional staff and support staff; therefore, this position holds supervisory responsibilities.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Secondary Principal to assist in defining and enforcing school policies and guidelines for students, staff, and faculty.

  • Enforce attendance rules.

  • Meet with parents to discuss student behavioral or learning problems.

  • Respond to disciplinary issues in accordance with the Parent Student Handbook and school policies.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of school safety procedures.

  • Coordinate development, planning and implementation of class schedules.

  • Monitor student achievement using benchmark, interim, and class assessments.

  • Assess data relating to state standards and student test scores.

  • Maintain systems for attendance, performance, planning, and other such reports.

  • Supervise the hallways, common areas, and check-in on teachers and classrooms.

  • Work with the secondary principal and other assistant principals across both campuses to ensure the implementation of curriculum across grade levels 6-12 and based on the foundation of the elementary curriculum.

  • Aid teachers in implementing effective instructional practices and monitoring student achievement on an ongoing basis.

  • Work with secondary principal, teachers, and instructional coaches in documenting, communicating, and implementing scope and sequence for grade levels 6-12.

  • Review syllabi, lesson plans, and quarterly/year-end assessments during the summer and school year to ensure rigor, grade-level appropriateness, and alignment with Amplus Academy curriculum standards to align with the Nevada Academic Content Standards.

  • Plan, facilitate, and conduct teacher training programs and conferences dealing with new classroom procedures, instructional materials and equipment, and teaching aids.

  • Attend teacher meetings, support teachers, and facilitate positive faculty dynamics.

  • Assist with the oversight of educators in the secondary school grades 6-12 providing periodic observations and evaluations that are timely and constructive and completed based on the timetables set by the school.

  • Offer additional training and guidance as necessary based on evaluations of professional staff.

  • Support student support staff (counselors, therapists, social workers, advocates, monitors, etc.) in providing social/emotional supports that promote access and integrate academic successes. 

  • Seek and attend ongoing professional development.

  • Assist in the hiring of all faculty and staff for the secondary school. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Secondary Principal.

  • Thorough understanding of instructional methodology

  • Knowledge of best practices in education and educational administration

  • Ability to create, understand, and implement budgets and budgeting practices

  • Proficient with Google G-Suite services, Microsoft Office Suite, Infinite Campus and other related software

 

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s in Education and School Administrator License required 

  • At least three (3) years of experience in an administrative/leadership capacity preferred

  • Must be able to demonstrate successful teaching experience and/or administrative experience

  • Extensive course work experience in curriculum development preferred

  • Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone, and in addressing groups.

  • Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; ability to occasionally restrain or move up to 50-100 pounds if required to intervene during student safety issues.

  • This type of work requires occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, or reaching for extended periods of time.

  • This type of work requires occasional or frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling during crisis scenarios such as hard lockdowns, earthquake drills, etc.

  • Sufficient manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects, operate mechanical equipment, and move about the work area.

  • Ability to operate, activate and use a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and printer.

  • Employees in this classification may be subject to work environments that have exposure to weather or interiors with extremes of heat and/or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, high noise levels, and various work related hazards such as bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.
