Job Summary:
The RN Director of Med/Surg will oversee the daily operations of the Medical/Surgical unit, ensuring the highest standards of patient care are met. This leadership role includes managing staff, developing and implementing policies, and collaborating with other departments to enhance patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills, leadership experience, and a commitment to improving patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Management:
- Provide leadership and direction to nursing staff in the Med/Surg unit.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, professional growth, and retention.
- Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate updates, expectations, and receive feedback.
- Patient Care:
- Ensure the highest standards of patient care are delivered consistently.
- Monitor patient care activities to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Address and resolve patient and family concerns promptly and professionally.
- Operational Oversight:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures to improve patient care and operational efficiency.
- Oversee staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage and optimal patient care.
- Manage the unit’s budget, including monitoring expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Quality Improvement:
- Lead quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Analyze data to identify trends, develop strategies, and implement changes to improve patient outcomes.
- Ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols.
- Collaboration:
- Collaborate with physicians, other healthcare professionals, and departments to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in hospital-wide committees and initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Licensure:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Florida.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience in a Med/Surg unit.
- At least 2 years of leadership or management experience in a healthcare setting.
- Skills:
- Strong clinical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare technologies.
Working Conditions:
- Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- May involve exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.
- Must be able to lift and move patients and medical equipment.
